Company Overview
Madsen Controls & Engineering specializes in providing controls, components, and support solutions for industrial prime movers. As a key part of the Madsen Group, we serve as the Woodward Business Partner for Canada and are the Eastern Canadian Distributor for Basler Electric, delivering innovative solutions to our clients.
Job Summary
Madsen is seeking an experienced Outside Sales / Account Manager based from our Madsen Controls & Engineering operations in Edmonton, Alberta. The position will be responsible for developing and managing industrial customers throughout Alberta and Western Canada, with a primary focus on the Western Canadian industrial market.
This is a broad industrial sales role representing the mechanical products and services of both Madsen Controls & Engineering and Madsen Mechanical Services. The primary commercial focus will be on aftermarket repair, overhaul and modernization of mechanical and hydraulic governing equipment, heavy rotating equipment, turbines, valves, pumps and compressors.
A major focus of the position will be developing repair and overhaul business for Madsen's Edmonton Woodward-authorized governor repair facility. This includes Woodward mechanical governors, hydraulic actuators and associated governing equipment, including EHPC, TM25LP, Hydraulic Amplifier, VariStroke and QuickTrip products.
The Account Manager will also be expected to identify opportunities for steam turbine, valve, pump and compressor parts, repair, field service and overhaul work and connect these opportunities with the appropriate resources within Madsen Mechanical Services.
The Account Manager will be responsible for developing new accounts, expanding existing customer relationships and managing opportunities from initial customer discussions through quotation and execution.
Industrial experience is essential. The successful candidate must know their way around an industrial site and be comfortable dealing directly with maintenance personnel, engineers, tradespeople, operations, procurement and plant management. We are looking for someone who understands how industrial maintenance and project work is identified, scoped, quoted, approved and executed.
This is not strictly a relationship sales position. The Account Manager will remain actively involved in opportunities, including gathering customer requirements, developing scopes of work and quotations, following up on opportunities and coordinating with Madsen's technical and operations teams.
The successful candidate does not need to be an expert in every Madsen product or technical discipline but must have the technical aptitude to recognize opportunities,
understand customer requirements and engage the appropriate Madsen specialists when required.
Significant time will be spent at customer facilities throughout the territory, utilizing our Edmonton facility as the home base.
Responsibilities
- Independently organize and execute outside sales activities throughout the assigned territory.
- Represent and actively sell the mechanical repair, overhaul, parts and aftermarket services of Madsen Controls & Engineering and Madsen Mechanical Services.
- Develop new industrial accounts and identify new opportunities within existing accounts.
- Develop strong relationships with maintenance, engineering, planning, procurement, operations and plant management personnel.
- Proactively identify and track scheduled plant turnarounds, major outages and planned equipment overhauls.
- Develop repair and overhaul business for Madsen's Edmonton Woodward governor and actuator repair operation.
- Identify repair, overhaul and modernization opportunities involving Woodward mechanical governors, hydraulic actuators, EHPC, TM25LP, Hydraulic Amplifier, VariStroke, QuickTrip and related equipment.
- Identify opportunities for steam turbine inspection, maintenance, parts, field service, repair and overhaul.
- Identify parts, repair and overhaul opportunities involving industrial valves, pumps, compressors and other heavy rotating equipment.
- Conduct site visits and gather the information necessary to properly define customer requirements.
- Engage Madsen's governor repair, mechanical and technical specialists as required.
- Develop scopes of work, quotations and proposals in cooperation with Madsen's technical and operations teams.
- Follow up on quotations and take ownership of opportunities throughout the sales process.
- Review purchase orders and manage commercial and scope-related matters during project execution.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, sales pipeline, forecasts and customer communications.
- Proactively cross-sell Madsen's mechanical repair, overhaul, parts and field-service capabilities into existing accounts.
- Maintain customer relationships following completion of work to identify future repair, overhaul and maintenance opportunities.

- Technical service or industrial equipment sales.
- Estimating, proposal development and commercial management.
An established network of industrial contacts within Alberta and Western Canada would be a significant advantage. A technical diploma, engineering technology diploma, trade background, engineering education or equivalent industrial experience would be considered an asset.
Experience with Woodward mechanical governors, hydraulic actuators, steam turbines, pumps, compressors would also be considered an asset.
The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who is equally comfortable walking through an industrial plant and sitting across the table negotiating the commercial details of a job.
