Architectural Design Lead

Ontario Bollards Inc. | Georgetown, Ontario

Own how architects, specification writers and security consultants design with Canada's crash-rated bollards.

Reports to: VP Sales and Marketing, peer to the Sales Manager

Location: Georgetown, ON (west GTA). On-site during the build, field days after

Type: Full-time, permanent. Monday to Friday, 40 hours

Compensation: $95,000 to $110,000 base plus 15% target bonus THE ROLE

Ontario Bollards is the only Canadian manufacturer of ASTM F2656 and ASTM F3016 crash-rated bollards. Crash-rated bollards are chosen during design. By the time a project reaches tender, the specification is written and the decision is made. The Architectural Design Lead is the front end of our sales system: what you get written into the specification is what our sales team closes at tender.

You build and own our specifier platform: Revit families and IFC exports, CSC MasterFormat sections with US CSI equivalents, a published CAD detail library, and a continuing education programme eligible for OAA, OALA and AIA CES credit. Then you take it to the design community across Canada and the US, with a strong focus on Ontario and Quebec.

This role suits an Architectural Representative, Client Development Manager, Specification Consultant or Senior Architectural Technologist with at least eight years on the specifying side of building products.

WHAT YOU WILL BUILD, THEN RUN

Phase one, the first six to nine months: build the platform

- Prepare and validate source geometry, dimensions and parameter schedules for the full ännT line
- Scope and manage the outside BIM vendor authoring our Revit families and IFC exports, and hold them to dimensional and technical accuracy
- Commission our CSC MasterFormat sections (Div 32 and 34) from a certified spec writer, with US CSI equivalents, then own them
- Build the Revit families and publish crash-test reports, spec sheets and finish data as one library
- Write the spacing and clearance guidance sheet for specifiers
- Place our content on the platforms specifiers search first

Phase two, month nine onward: take it to market
- Develop and deliver our continuing education programme, eligible for OAA, OALA and AIA CES credit: lunch and learns at design firms across Canada and the US, with a strong focus on Ontario and Quebec
- Build relationships with the spec writers and security consultants who write our category
- Train our sales team to use the content in specifier conversations, and back them on technically complex pursuits
- Keep the library current as new products certify, and manage the BIM vendor as it grows

- Represent Ontario Bollards at CSC, The Buildings Show and industry events, and on OAA and OALA webinars The phases overlap. Content ownership continues throughout, and the balance of the role shifts from building to teaching. Structural analysis, sealed drawings and site-specific layouts stay with the project's engineer of record.

WHY THIS ROLE

- You own the platform. Revit families, specification sections, CAD details and the CE programme carry your standards and your name.
- You are measured in specifications won. The bonus is tied to platform delivery, CE milestones and specifications won. There is no sales quota.
- You represent the only Canadian manufacturer of ASTM F2656 and ASTM F3016 crash-rated bollards, as federal and Ontario Buy Canadian rules push public projects toward domestic materials.
- Our installations include Ottawa City Hall, Montreal City Hall, Edmonton Ice District, Calgary Stampede Park and Scotia Place.
- You sit beside the Sales Manager, reporting to the VP Sales and Marketing, in a company growing into the United States.

WHAT YOU BRING

Required

- At least eight years in a technical, specification or architectural rep role at a building products manufacturer or rep agency, or on the specifying side of a design practice
- Working Revit Architecture and AutoCAD: open a model, work with families and parameters, tell whether a family is built right, and read drawing sets and spec sections fluently
- You enjoy public speaking and talk architecture fluently: drawings, details, design intent, spec language. You have presented to design firms and it went well. We will ask you to do it live
- Transparent, precise written English. You will write specification language that has to survive competitive review
- You have held an outside technical vendor to scope, schedule and quality
- You use AI tools in your daily work and know when the output is wrong
- Legally entitled to work in Canada, and able to travel regularly to design firms across Ontario and Quebec, occasionally further. Driving is an essential part of this role, so a valid driver's licence (Class G or equivalent) is required

Preferred

- Bilingual English and French is a strong asset
- A CSC (CTR, CSP, RSW) or CSI (CDT, CCPR,

CCS) designation, or eligibility to pursue one, funded by Ontario Bollards
- You have written or reviewed MasterFormat three-part sections in Canada or the US
- You have delivered continuing education to architects (OAA-eligible, OALA-eligible, AIA CES or equivalent)
- OAA licence, Licensed Technologist OAA, AATO or OACETT membership, or equivalent registration elsewhere
- Familiarity with steel fabrication, hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating
- Exposure to security design, threat assessment or perimeter protection

Experience gained outside Canada is assessed on the same basis as experience gained here.

PAY AND WHAT WE OFFER

- Base salary: $95,000 to $110,000 per year, based on experience and demonstrated capability
- Bonus: 15% of base at target, tied to platform delivery, continuing education milestones and specifications won
- Benefits: Company group benefits plan, starting after three months
- Vacation: Three weeks' vacation plus six floater days
- Location: Georgetown, on-site during the build. Field days at design firms once the CE programme is live. The company is relocating within the west GTA corridor during the coming lease term
- Travel: CRA-rate mileage for your own vehicle. Company-paid travel for work outside Ontario
- Development: CSC membership and CTR / CSP certification, AATO or OACETT dues, CSC national conference and The Buildings Show
- Tools: Full Revit and AutoCAD seats, AI tools, and a funded outside-vendor budget for the build

HOW TO APPLY

Send your resume to [email protected]. Instead of a cover letter, tell us in a few sentences about a time you got a product specified, or built technical content other people relied on.

Shortlisted candidates have two conversations, including a short Revit exercise, a ten-minute presentation on a subject of your choosing, and a conversation about a time you held an outside vendor to scope. All three are assessed live.
