With a strong commitment to service excellence and financial stewardship, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team.
Position Summary The Assistant Accountant will support the day-to-day accounting operations of the Club, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, reconciliations, reporting, and member accounting activities. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an accounting qualified looking to further develop their career within the hospitality and private club industry.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Process vendor invoices and employee expense reports.
- Match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documents.
- Prepare weekly payment batches and maintain vendor records.
- Respond to vendor inquiries regarding payments and account status.
General Accounting
- Assist with monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
- Assist in budget preparation and variance analysis.
Payroll Support
- Assist with payroll processing and reconciliation.
- Maintain payroll records and support payroll audits when required.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare routine financial reports and schedules.
- Assist in compiling monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Support external auditors during annual audits.
Administrative Support
- Maintain organized accounting files and documentation.
- Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with Club policies and accounting standards.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of accounting experience.
- Experience in hospitality, private clubs, hotels, or member-based organizations is an asset but not mandatory.
- Working toward or completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA) is preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with accounting and club management systems is an asset (e.g., Jonas Club Software, North Star Club Software, or similar platforms).
