Your Opportunity:
The Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) is an in-scope leadership position, working under the general supervision and guidance of the Postpartum Community Services (PPCS) Area Manager & Care Managers. The AHN oversees the day-to-day operations as it pertains to patient care. This position provides leadership to the nursing team and is responsible for the coordination and provision of safe, timely care to postpartum mothers and newborns in the community. The AHN uses clinical judgement to prioritize the allocation of daily assignments considering client acuity, workload volumes, staff and client safety concerns. The AHN collaborates with the AHNs at the other PPCS sites, to share resources and prioritize PPCS workload city wide. The AHN has extensive knowledge of the PPCS program and takes a lead role in promoting and reinforcing best practice standards, policies and guidelines among the nursing staff. This position requires a strong understanding of the PPCS multidisciplinary team roles including nurses, Social Work and Administrative staff and provides support and guidance to them as required. The AHN possesses appropriate skills and experience to be a mentor and resource to the PPCS nursing team. The AHN is a champion for quality improvement initiatives and is a key communicator between organizational levels and among multidisciplinary health care teams and community partners.
Description:
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities.
Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
Active
Member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Minimum 1 year experience acting in a leadership role within PPCS and minimum 3 years as a Registered Nurse in PPCS. Demonstrates excellence in Leadership skills such as mentoring, supervising, coaching and conflict resolution. Strong clinical assessment, analytical and decision-making skills. Proficient computer skills including the use of Connect Care, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:
IBCLC Certification. Additional formal training in areas related to Leadership such as Communication, Mentoring or Conflict Resolution.
