About the Opportunity
Insight Global is seeking an experienced Avionics Systems Engineer to support the development, integration, testing, and certification of advanced avionics and electrical systems for commercial and military aircraft programs.
This role is focused on aircraft-level avionics integration, supporting modernization programs, avionics upgrades, system expansions, and new aircraft development initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers, customers, and certification authorities to ensure successful system integration and regulatory compliance.
This is primarily a systems-level engineering role with hands-on involvement in avionics integration activities including schematics, testing, analysis, troubleshooting, and certification support.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze aircraft system, production, and certification requirements to develop avionics and electrical system solutions
- Support aircraft integration activities, including:
- Component selection
- Interface compatibility assessments
- Electrical schematics development
- Installation and wiring requirements
- Develop and manage system requirements, architectures, interfaces, and technical specifications using requirements management tools such as DOORS or Jama
- Coordinate integration and testing activities with suppliers and internal engineering teams
- Support communication, navigation, display, sensor, vehicle management, autopilot, and other avionics system integration efforts
- Develop certification plans, qualification plans, compliance matrices, and supporting technical documentation
- Support certification activities with FAA, TCCA, EASA, and military authorities
- Develop test plans and procedures for:
- Systems Integration Laboratories (SIL)
- LRU Testing
- Ground Testing
- Flight Testing
- Perform engineering analyses related to:
- Electrical loads
- Thermal performance
- EMC/EMI
- HIRF
- Lightning protection
- System safety
- Reliability
- Investigate system issues through troubleshooting, validation, and root cause analysis
- Review supplier technical documentation and provide integration and certification guidance
- Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and certification stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle
Required Qualifications Must-Have Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Avionics Engineering, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of avionics systems engineering or aerospace systems development experience
- Strong experience with aircraft-level avionics integration
- Experience integrating avionics computers and systems into aircraft environments
- Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Jama, or equivalent
- Working knowledge of aircraft avionics and electrical systems
Required Aerospace Standards Experience Candidates must have experience supporting compliance activities involving:
- DO-160
- DO-178
- DO-254
- ARP4754A
- ARP4761
- FAR/AWM Part 27 or Part 29
- Applicable military standards
Certification Experience
- Experience supporting aircraft certification programs
- Senior candidates should possess direct certification experience involving FAA, TCCA, EASA, or military certification authorities
- Junior to Intermediate candidates should have exposure to certification processes and documentation
Additional Requirements
- Solid analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Must be eligible for Canadian CGP clearance
- Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Ideally residing in Canada for the past 5 years
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual English/French
- Experience supporting commercial or military aircraft programs
- Experience with flight displays, FMS, communication systems, navigation systems, sensors, vehicle management systems, or autopilot integration
Compensation: $70/hr to $80/hr
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as short-term and long-term disability, life insurance and AD&D.; Employees will also have access to a registered retirement savings account with employer matching.
