Bayside Associates | Calgary, AB | Remote within Canada
Part-Time with Potential to Grow
Bayside Associates is looking for a confident, personable Business Development Representative - Outbound Calling to help us connect with businesses across Alberta and introduce them to our team.
Bayside Associates is an independent life insurance and financial services firm that has been working with individuals, families and business owners since 1996.
This role is focused primarily on outbound calling. You’ll be provided with prospective businesses to contact, introduce Bayside, have a short conversation with the person on the other end and work toward booking qualified appointments for our advisors.
You do not need to be an insurance expert, and you will not be expected to sell insurance over the phone.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable talking to new people, can handle hearing “no,” and can consistently work toward a goal without needing constant supervision.
The position can be performed remotely from within Canada, excluding Quebec. However, if you are located in Calgary or the surrounding area, working from our Calgary office is preferred.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Make outbound calls to prospective businesses using lead lists provided by Bayside
- Introduce yourself and Bayside in a natural, professional way
- Speak with business owners, managers and other decision-makers
- Ask simple qualifying questions
- Work toward booking meetings for our advisors
- Accurately document calls, outcomes and follow-up information
- Follow established call-back and follow-up processes
- Keep prospect information organized and up to date
- Provide feedback on common objections, conversations and lead quality
- Work consistently toward agreed-upon calling and appointment goals
This is not a high-pressure scripted call-centre environment. We want conversations to sound like conversations.
At the same time, outbound calling requires consistency. Some people will not answer.
Some will not be interested. Some days will be more successful than others. Being able to stay positive, stay professional and continue working through the list is an important part of the role.
What We’re Looking For
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Are comfortable starting conversations with people you do not know
- Sound warm, confident and professional over the phone
- Can communicate naturally without sounding overly scripted
- Are persistent without being pushy
- Can handle rejection and continue working toward a goal
- Can work independently and stay productive
- Are comfortable being measured against clear activity and appointment goals
- Are reliable about scheduled working hours
- Take accurate notes and follow instructions
- Are comfortable learning recent software and systems
- Are willing to ask questions, receive feedback and accept coaching
Previous cold-calling experience is helpful, but it is not required.
Experience in hospitality, customer service, sales, fundraising, appointment setting, reception, recruiting, retail or another role involving frequent conversations with people may translate well to this position.
Work Location For candidates located in Calgary or the surrounding area, working from our Calgary office is preferred.
Our Calgary office is located in NE Calgary.
For candidates located elsewhere in Canada, the position can be performed remotely, excluding Quebec.
If working remotely, you will need:
- A reliable high-speed internet connection
- A quiet, professional space where you can comfortably make calls
- The ability to work independently during scheduled hours
- A reliable computer/workstation setup appropriate for remote work
Regardless of location, our calls are primarily with Alberta businesses, so availability during Alberta business hours (Mountain Time) is required.
Schedule
We are initially hiring this position on a part-time basis, with the potential for additional hours or a transition to full-time as the role develops and depending on performance and business needs.
This is primarily a weekday daytime position because you will be contacting businesses during their regular working hours.
We are looking for someone who can commit to a consistent schedule rather than fitting calls in sporadically throughout the week.
Training & Support
You’ll receive training on
- Bayside and what we do
- Who we are trying to reach
- Our calling approach and messaging
- Common questions and objections
- How to qualify a potential opportunity
- How and when to book an appointment
- The systems used to track calls and results
You’ll have a framework to work from, but we do not want every call to sound identical. As you become comfortable, we want you to be able to have a genuine conversation while still communicating the right information.
Whether you work from our Calgary office or remotely, you will have access to the team for questions, feedback and ongoing coaching.
How to Apply A cover letter is not required for this position. Instead, we ask applicants to answer a few short questions as part of our application so we can learn more about your experience, communication style and fit for the role.
Please do not submit your application directly through Indeed or LinkedIn.
