Description The Department of Oncology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Clinical Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

Clinical Research Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the tumor tissue banking program for the Principal Investigator, including biobanking, bioprocessing, biostorage, handling and transportation of biospecimens, and communication with sponsors and collaborators. The position will also manage clinical trials, including participant consenting, data collection, sponsor liaison, and coordination with collaborating surgeons and other stakeholders. The position will support multiple research projects through data collection, management, and analysis, as well as provide technical support to research staff, study collaborators, and students.

Responsibilities will also include chemical management, laboratory inspections, hazard assessments, and laboratory safety training to ensure compliance with university policies and regulatory requirements.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Clinical Trial Management

- Coordinate clinical trial initiation, recruitment, participant consenting, documentation, and day-to-day trial activities
- Liaise with sponsors, data monitoring committees, collaborators, and clinical teams
- Manage REDCap and research records, including data collection, organization, and maintenance
- Coordinate meetings, study deliverables, financial transactions, and research funding
- Biobanking & Biospecimen Management:
- Coordinate biobanking projects and collaborations with external sponsors, AHS, APL, and research partners
- Screen and recruit participants, obtain informed consent, coordinate blood collection, and collect clinical and pathology data
- Coordinate collection, processing, documentation, storage, inventory, and transportation of blood and tissue specimens
- Manage freezer and liquid nitrogen storage systems and ensure biospecimen handling and shipping comply with TDG/IATA requirements

Laboratory Operations & Supervision:
- Coordinate laboratory operations, including inspections, hazard assessments, safety training, incident reporting, waste disposal, and laboratory maintenance
- Develop and maintain SOPs and manage laboratory systems, including Chematix and equipment/resources
- Coordinate purchasing, supplies, VISA reconciliation, and troubleshooting of laboratory computers and software

Ethics & Regulatory:
- Coordinate human research ethics applications, renewals, and related documentation
- Ensure research activities and data management comply with applicable University of Calgary, AHS, HIA, and research policies and requirements

Data Management:
- Manage research databases and data collection systems, including FileMaker, REDCap, Excel,



and project-specific databases
- Collect, extract, organize, and maintain clinical, pathology, and biobanking data while ensuring appropriate data storage and privacy compliance

Qualifications / Requirements:

- Bachelors degree in Science or equivalent, with demonstrated experience working in a research laboratory setting. A Masters degree or PhD in a relevant scientific or health-related field is an asset
- Minimum 3-5 years of clinical/health-related research experience, including at least 1 year of experience as a Research Coordinator in clinical research
- Experience in a hospital, clinic, or anatomical pathology setting is an asset
- Experience processing surgical specimens, including blood, tumor, muscle, fat, fine needle aspirates, or other human biospecimens, is required
- Completion of applicable clinical research training, including CITI Canadian GCP, TCPS 2: CORE, and WHMIS
- Completion of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG/IATA) training is required
- Knowledge of University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, HREBA/IRISS, Alberta Health Services, and related research, legal, financial, and regulatory processes
- Proficiency with research and clinical systems, including REDCap, ARIA, AXON, IMPAX, Connect Care, and other applicable platforms
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple research projects, work independently and collaboratively, and provide technical support to research staff and students
- Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and judgment skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established timelines
- Ability to work flexible schedule to accommodate patient recruitment and clinical research activities
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including frequent walking and prolonged standing throughout the workday, and safely handling and transporting research materials and human biospecimens
