Who We Are
You know those big cities that still feel like small towns? Where everyone’s friendly and helps each other out? That’s like Doane Grant Thornton. Except here we’re all professionals and there isn’t a mayor or a general store.
What we’re trying to say is that we’re a large and growing professional services firm that still feels like a community. We employ about 3000 people across Canada, and we truly care about our colleagues, our clients and the communities where we work and live. That’s what’s most important to us.
We’re building a thriving organization that’s purpose driven and still want to remember what your favourite milkshake flavour is.
The Coordinator, Resource Scheduling is responsible for short-term scheduling of work to our Accountant and Senior Accountant colleagues, with a focus on client deadlines, continuity, skill set, even utilization, and other file risks.
As a Coordinator, Resource Scheduling your responsibilities will include:
- Schedule files by allocating work based on upcoming needs while balancing continuity, capacity, utilization, and overall skill development of our Accountants and Senior Accountants.
- Support workforce planning by tracking the skills, experience and development of Accountants and Senior Accountants, ensuring assignments contribute to both client needs and colleague growth.
- Understand the skills, experience, and availability of Accountants and Senior Accountants, and assign work to the right team members to ensure productive scheduling.
- Lead workforce planning meetings to identify, prioritize, and confirm upcoming work expected over the next 0-6 weeks.
- Understand workload volumes, backlog of files, and develop a general understanding of how each region/Business Unit and office runs.
- Ensure files are scheduled accurately by understanding client budgets, timelines, and filing deadlines.
- Understand the firm's work cycles and changing business demands to effectively plan resources, balance workloads, and anticipate peak periods.
- Collaborate with business leaders, resource planning colleagues, and support teams to coordinate workloads, prioritize work, and ensure client deadlines are met.
- Proactively identify and escalate scheduling conflicts, skill set gaps, backlog/capacity workload challenges as well as turnaround time to Resource Management leadership.
- Support the onboarding and integration of new team members and acquired or merged practices into workforce planning and scheduling processes.
- Provide support across multiple service lines and business units.
