Autism Okanagan is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Dungeon Master to lead our Dungeons & Dragons program for neurodivergent youth and adults aged 16 and older in Vernon.

This is a part-time independent contractor position beginning immediately.

Location: Vernon, BC

Schedule: Thursdays, 6:00–8:30 p.m.

Pay: $25 per hour

Hours: Program delivery plus planning and related responsibilities, up to a maximum of 25 hours per month. No minimum number of hours is guaranteed.

Position Summary The Dungeon Master will plan and lead welcoming, engaging and accessible Dungeons & Dragons sessions where participants can have fun, build friendships and develop valuable social and personal skills.

A behavioural interventionist will be present at every session to respond to behavioural, emotional or regulation-related needs, allowing the Dungeon Master to focus primarily on leading the game and creating a positive experience for all players.

Key Responsibilities

● Plan and lead engaging Dungeons & Dragons campaigns and weekly sessions

● Create stories, encounters and challenges that encourage creativity, cooperation and player choice

● Adapt gameplay to different experience levels, communication styles and participant needs

● Encourage participation while respecting each player’s comfort level and autonomy

● Maintain a welcoming, respectful and neurodivergent-affirming atmosphere

● Attend and actively participate in all scheduled program sessions

● Work collaboratively with the Program Supervisor

● Communicate concerns, incidents or participant-related issues clearly and promptly





● Follow up with participants or parents when requested by the Program Supervisor or Executive Director

● Maintain confidentiality and complete any required incident or progress documentation

● Follow Autism Okanagan’s safety protocols and organizational policies

Qualifications

● Strong knowledge of Dungeons & Dragons and its rules, gameplay and character-building systems

● Previous experience serving as a Dungeon Master and planning or leading campaigns

● Robust storytelling, improvisation, organization and group-facilitation skills

● Ability to encourage player agency while keeping sessions engaging and on track

● Patient, dependable, flexible and welcoming

● Solid communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills

● Ability to create an inclusive table where different personalities and experience levels feel valued

● Experience working with autistic or otherwise neurodivergent individuals is welcomed and considered an asset

● A combination of relevant employment, volunteer and lived experience will be considered

Additional Requirements

● Availability on Thursdays from 6:00–8:30 p.m.

● Ability to begin immediately

● Reliable transportation to the Vernon program location





● Satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening

● Completion of any required Autism Okanagan orientation and training

● As an independent contractor, responsibility for submitting monthly timesheets and invoices and managing personal tax and contractor obligations

Programs generally operate during the fall, winter, and spring with scheduled breaks. Limited programming may also take place during July and August.
