Position Overview
Power your future with Qualus as a Telecom Engineer. Qualus is seeking a Telecom Engineer to join our Vancouver, BC or Calgary, AB office and help deliver critical telecommunications designs for utility clients across North America. At Qualus, we provide engineering and technical services to electrical utilities across North America.
Our Canadian Telecommunications
Engineering team supports the critical communications systems that utilities rely on to monitor, control, and protect the electrical grid. As our clients continue to modernize their infrastructure and adopt smart grid technologies, telecommunications plays an increasingly significant role in delivering reliable, secure, and real-time information where it is needed most.
You will play a key role in designing communications systems for utility and substation infrastructure projects, supporting designs from concept development through construction and commissioning support.

Responsibilities
- Prepare telecommunications engineering drawings and documentation packages as part of multi-disciplinary project teams, including block diagrams, cabinet layouts, wiring drawings, technical specifications, bills of materials, estimates, and construction scoping documents.
- Work directly with clients to confirm project scope, understand site and operational constraints, and deliver practical, constructible designs that meet quality, schedule, and budget expectations.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and ensure seamless discipline interface across the project.
- Take professional ownership of assigned designs, applying sound engineering judgement, relevant codes and standards,
and client requirements within your field of practice.
- Manage multiple projects with competing priorities effectively.
- Build strong relationships with internal teams, external contractors, and client representatives to foster trust and collaboration.
- Travel within Canada for field investigations and reviews as required.
- Be a courageous safety leader by ensuring safety is considered in your designs, field work, and day-to-day decisions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Electrical engineering degree, or related degree from a recognized university
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia or another Canadian jurisdiction, or registered as an Engineer-in-Training and having submitted an application for professional engineering licensure in Canada.
- Strong understanding of the consulting engineering process, including scope definition, design development, interdisciplinary coordination, quality reviews, client communication, and construction support.
- Demonstrated ability to independently develop engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, bills of materials, cost estimates, and design reports.
- 4+ years of engineering experience designing SCADA, Radio, and/or networking systems for utilities, industrial facilities, or similar critical infrastructure environments.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license.
- Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
- Ability to complete client-required security screening or background checks, where applicable.
- Ability to work from the office a minimum of three days per week.
- Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, with experience applying other relevant electrical, telecommunications, utility, or client engineering standards.
