Department Information

The Department of Executive and Indigenous Affairs works to provide overall management and direction to the Executive branch of the Government of the Northwest Territories. The Department is responsible for: coordinating and supporting the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of initiatives and actions in support of cross-government goals The Department is responsible for ensuring mutually respectful intergovernmental relations between the territorial government and Aboriginal, provincial, territorial and national and international governments are maintained; along with negotiating and implementing land, resources And self-government agreements that address Aboriginal rights in the Northwest Territories.

Job Information

The Executive Assistant to EIA and the NWT Commissioner is responsible for managing transitions between Commissioners of the NWT to ensure that recent Commissioners are appropriately oriented to their new duties and obligations. You will also be responsible for overall office management of the Commissioner's Office, as well as researching, proposing and maintaining policy instruments and other materials necessary to the Office's programs and processes. This role also supports administrative functions within the Indigenous Affairs Unit, and in particular the Intergovernmental Relations division.

Key Responsibilities:

- Providing research, analysis and writing through researching and drafting speeches, letters and occasional presentations for the Commissioner's approval and delivery.




- Developing and maintaining open communication lines with media representatives.
- Maintaining the Commissioner's calendar including acting as the point of contract for people and organizations wishing to contact the Commissioner.
- Planning and supporting the planning and negotiation of event programs, as well as organizing logistics and implementing approved programs for official visits and special or ceremonial events hosted by the GNWT.
- Providing reception and other administrative support to the department.

Key Qualifications

- A diploma in administration, policy, research or communications and one year of relevant experience.

Equivalencies

- A post-secondary Certificate and two years of relevant experience.
- Relevant experience can include, but are not limited to:
- Executive or senior administrative support to Directors, Executives, Deputy Heads, Officials or Senior Managers.
- Office management and coordination of complex administrative operations.
- Policy, research, communications, or briefing note preparation.
- Stakeholder relations involving multiple organizations, governments, or community partners.

- All other equivalencies will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
