The Executive Underwriter, Natural Resources will lead the assessment and underwriting of complex, high-value risks across established and emerging natural resources sectors including Energy and Mining. The role is responsible for delivering profitable portfolio growth through disciplined risk selection, technical underwriting excellence and effective management of pricing, terms, capacity and aggregation. As a senior market-facing underwriter, the role will build trusted relationships with brokers, clients and industry partners, identify new business opportunities and develop tailored solutions that respond to evolving technologies and risk profiles.
The successful candidate will balance commercial opportunity with long-term portfolio sustainability while helping strengthen the organization’s position in the Energy Transition and Natural Resources market. Underwrite complex and high-value risks across all the key Natural Resource sectors with a focus on client solutions across both property and casualty. Evaluate exposures, loss scenarios, risk controls and coverage requirements.
Manage renewals, new business and portfolio performance against agreed targets. Identify emerging risks and recommend portfolio actions. Assess new technologies, changing risk profiles and evolving operating models.
Monitor regulatory, environmental and market developments affecting the portfolio. Technical leadership Serve as a technical referral point for complex underwriting matters. Coach and mentor underwriters, supporting the development of technical capability.
Share market intelligence, lessons learned and underwriting best practices. Contribute to underwriting guidelines, risk appetite and product development. Develop a robust pipeline of profitable new business.
Lead complex submissions, negotiations and account presentations. Partner with Claims, Risk Engineering, Actuarial, Legal, Compliance, Operations and Reinsurance. Incorporate claims trends, engineering insights and exposure analysis into underwriting decisions.
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills: Significant experience underwriting complex commercial or specialty risks. Proven record of developing profitable business and managing major accounts. Professional insurance designation such as CIP, FCIP, ACII or CPCU is an asset.
Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and complex risk information. Robust commercial judgement and portfolio-management capability. AXA XL, the P&C; and specialty risk division of AXA, is known for solving complex risks.
