Job Title: Finance Director

Organization: Community Living Alternatives Society

Location: Kentville, Nova Scotia

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably within the nonprofit or broader public sector.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Experience overseeing payroll and organizational accounting functions.
- Experience coordinating annual audits and working with external auditors.
- Proficiency with financial software and systems, including Sage 300 and Microsoft Excel, or comparable systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly present financial information to management and Board-level stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively across an organization.

Key Responsibilities: Financial Management & Reporting:

- Oversee the organization's day-to-day financial operations and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare and present financial statements, management reports, forecasts, and financial analysis.
- Develop, maintain, and strengthen financial policies, procedures, systems, and internal controls.
- Monitor financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities requiring management attention.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

- Lead the development and management of the organization's annual operating budget.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and management team to develop accurate and realistic financial plans.
- Monitor actual results against budget, investigate variances, and recommend corrective action where appropriate.
- Support long-term financial planning and organizational sustainability.

Accounting and Compliance:

- Oversee accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable,



payroll, reconciliations, and the general ledger.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, legislation, funding requirements, and organizational policies.
- Coordinate and lead the annual external audit process and act as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Ensure appropriate financial records, controls, and documentation are maintained.

Financial Strategy & Leadership

- Provide strategic financial advice and recommendations to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Support organizational planning and decision-making through financial analysis and risk assessment.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, controls, and operational efficiencies.
- Contribute as a member of the leadership team to the overall strategic direction of CLAS.

Team Leadership

- Lead, support, and mentor members of the finance team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Ensure finance responsibilities and processes are effectively coordinated across the organization.

Salary: $84,000.00-$91,000.00 per year
