Food Manufacturing and Processing Lead Hand

Job Location: Kelowna, BC

Reports to: Production Manager

Job Summary:

The Production Lead Hand (the “Lead Hand”) will oversee and supervise daily operations in production and direct any needs in the warehouse.

The Lead

Hand will have strong leadership skills, the ability to delegate tasks efficiently, strong technical aptitude and a commitment to ensuring quality, safety, and productivity. As the Lead Hand, you will be responsible for guiding team members, managing workflow, ensuring adherence to company standards, ensure the completion and accuracy of required quality and production paperwork and documentation, while fostering a positive work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Supervision:

· Lead and coordinate a team of up to 8 workers to meet production goals and project deadlines.

· Assign daily tasks and monitor performance, ensuring team members understand and complete their duties efficiently. Perform daily crew talks at onset of shift and communicate any business needs.

· Provide training, mentorship, and support to new or less experienced team members.

· Monitor work quality and ensure it meets company standards and specifications, as well as document completion and accuracy (following up with deficiencies).

· Ensure performance standards are being met.

Operational Support:

· Oversee and lead daily operations, ensuring optimal workflow and resource allocation.





· Seek support and troubleshoot operational issues and resolve any problems that may arise in the work process.

· Ensure that all materials, equipment, and tools are available and in good working order, following up with management on any needs.

· Assist in maintaining inventory levels and equipment supplies to ensure minimal downtime.

· Assist in troubleshooting and completing minor repairs on production equipment and facility equipment with maintenance staff.

· Troubleshoot and escalate major repairs to management for production equipment and facility equipment.

· Ensure the completion and accuracy of all production documentation.

Safety & Compliance:

· Enforce and promote adherence to company safety policies and procedures.

· Ensure workers follow safe work practices and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

· Conduct regular safety inspections and report hazards or unsafe conditions.

· Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations, standards, and protocols.

Communication & Collaboration:

· Act as a liaison between management and the workforce, communicating goals, expectations, and feedback.

· Address and resolve any conflicts or issues within the team in a constructive manner.

· Maintain accurate records of team performance, attendance, and other relevant data.

Continuous Improvement:





· Suggest improvements to work processes and team efficiency.

· Participate in meetings with management to review production goals, challenges, and successes.

· Assist in implementing changes or upgrades to tools, processes, or workflows that improve team performance.

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent (preferred: post-secondary education or trade certification).

· Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role, preferably in manufacturing.

· Strong understanding of work processes, safety protocols, and quality control standards.

· Organizationally inclined.

· Mechanically inclined an asset.

· Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.

· Ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.

· Proven track record of completing tasks on time and meeting quality standards.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials or equipment as required.

· Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment, including standing for extended periods and performing manual labour tasks.

· Ability to work in cold temperature environments.

Working Conditions:

· 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts

· May require occasional overtime based on project deadlines or operational needs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
