After Five Collective Inc. is a Toronto-based social-purpose enterprise developing AlerteUnité, a multilingual community-resilience platform. Our technology enables residents and local responders to map, report, and coordinate around real-time climate and infrastructure hazards—flooding, contaminated water sources, blocked drainage, and civic emergencies. AlerteUnité bridges critical data gaps for communities overlooked by traditional response systems.

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Flutter Developer for a milestone-based, short-term contract to enhance our map-driven mobile experience and optimize real-time field performance.

Scope of Work You will dive into an established codebase to tackle high-priority, visual and spatial UI features. Initial milestones focus on interactive mapping and mobile polish:

- Energetic Map Visualization: Build responsive, custom interactive map markers (e.g., pulsing alerts for active, unverified, or escalating incidents).
- UI/UX Polish: Smooth map transitions, custom overlay cards, gestures, and fluid mobile animations.
- Resilient Data Flow: Optimize geolocation handling, push notifications, and REST/Firebase sync.
- Offline & Edge Optimization: Ensure map performance, caching, and state transitions stay performant under low-bandwidth and intermittent connectivity.
- Code Quality & Documentation: Provide well-commented, maintainable Dart code and brief technical handover notes for each milestone.

- (Note: The first milestone includes building custom pulsing map markers, serving as a practical baseline for code cleanliness, animation performance, and attention to visual detail.)

What We Are Looking For





- Core Stack: Proven production experience with Flutter & Dart, modern state management (e.g., Riverpod, Bloc, or Provider), and local persistence.
- Spatial & Map Expertise: Demonstrated track record building rich mobile mapping interfaces (Mapbox, Google Maps, or flutter_map), custom canvases/markers, and smooth 60fps animations.
- Production Realism: Comfort jumping into an existing, live codebase without needing to rewrite from scratch.
- Reliable Execution: Accurate milestone estimation, proactive communication on technical blockers, and respect for agreed deadlines.
- Nice to Have: Background with offline-first architectures, low-connectivity edge constraints, background location tracking, or civic/humanitarian technology.
