Provide ongoing instruction as per the Alberta Education Curriculum guides and programs of study, as well as locally developed courses such as the Alexander History curriculum and nehiyawewin.

Overview

Kipohtakaw Education Centre, under the jurisdiction of Alexander First Nation Education (AFNE) is located 40 minutes northwest of Edmonton or 20 minutes northwest of St. Albert. We are a K-12 school with just over 300 students with a solid focus on Cree language and cultural programming. We are looking for a passionate educator who has a balanced background in literacy and math, and a strong commitment to restorative practices to teach in our Grade 3 classroom.

Duties

Under the supervision of the Principal, the teacher is responsible for the planning and implementation of the AFNE holistic academic program.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide an environment that is safe, conducive to learning, and adheres to AFNE’s approved restorative policy.
- Provide ongoing instruction as per the Alberta Education Curriculum guides and programs of study, as well as locally developed courses such as the Alexander History curriculum and nehiyawewin.




- Perform specific duties associated with specialized areas of instructions as assigned by the Principal and/or Executive Director including preparation and/or delivery of programming that embeds Cree worldview, culture, land based opportunities, Indigenous authors and contexts in daily lessons.
- Evaluate students through on-going formal and informal procedures for reporting and placement, including updating student information software daily. Collaborate with the Wellness Team to develop individualized instruction or referrals to specialized programming as needed.
- Liaise with parents in matters pertaining to student performance.
- Participate and assist in planning extra-curricular activities, including community and cultural events as deemed necessary by the Principal and per contract.
- Follow all AFNE staff protocol and Code of Ethics as outlined in the AFNE policy manual.
- Attend ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Education.
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or Interim Professional Certificate
- Experince working with Indigneous communities is an asset.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in special education settings is preferred.

Pay: $68,850.00-$111,000.00 per year
