About the position

Tantalus Floors is looking for hardwood flooring installers and refinishers to join our team in Whistler.

We work on custom builds, renovations and high-end homes throughout Whistler and the Sea to Sky. Our projects include new hardwood and engineered flooring installations, sanding and refinishing, staining, repairs and detailed finishing work.

We’re interested in hearing from experienced flooring professionals, as well as finish carpenters and skilled tradespeople looking for a change of scenery and the opportunity to learn a specialized trade.

If you already have flooring experience, we can offer competitive pay based on your ability to work independently and deliver a high-quality finish. If your background is in finish carpentry or a related trade, we’re willing to train the right person.

Responsibilities

Depending on your experience, your work may include:

- Installing solid hardwood and engineered flooring
- Measuring rooms and planning flooring layouts
- Preparing subfloors before installation
- Checking floors for flatness, moisture and other conditions that may affect the installation
- Cutting, fitting, fastening and gluing flooring materials
- Sanding hardwood floors using professional flooring equipment
- Preparing floors for stain, sealer and finish
- Applying stains, sealers and protective finishes
- Completing flooring repairs, transitions, baseboards and finishing details
- Protecting finished surfaces and surrounding areas while working
- Maintaining tools and flooring equipment
- Keeping job sites clean, organized and safe
- Working with the crew to complete projects properly and on schedule




- Communicating any installation or finishing issues before they become larger problems

What we’re looking for

- Experience in hardwood flooring installation, refinishing, finish carpentry or a related construction trade
- Strong attention to detail and pride in your finished work
- Comfortable using hand tools and power tools
- Able to measure accurately and make clean, precise cuts
- Reliable, punctual and able to follow through on assigned work
- Able to work independently and as part of a small crew
- Comfortable working in occupied homes, renovation sites and active construction environments
- Willing to follow job-site safety requirements and use appropriate protective equipment
- Physically able to work on your feet, kneel, bend and carry flooring materials and equipment
- A valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation are preferred

Hardwood flooring experience is an asset, but it is not required if you have strong finish-carpentry skills, a good attitude and are willing to learn.

Experienced applicants

Applicants seeking the higher end of the wage range should be comfortable with several of the following:

- Completing hardwood installations with limited supervision
- Operating sanding and edging equipment
- Identifying and correcting subfloor issues
- Working with stains, sealers and finish systems
- Completing repairs and blending new work into existing flooring
- Reading plans,



calculating materials and planning layouts
- Maintaining a clean, consistent finish on high-end projects
- Helping guide less-experienced crew members when required

- $35–$45+ per hour for experienced installers and refinishers
