Turner Transport Ltd. is a locally based trucking company specializing in the transportation of heavy equipment. Operating since 1983, we have built long-standing relationships with our customers by providing service that is safe, reliable, punctual and courteous.
Our fleet includes 21 power units including winch trucks and basic tractors and a wide variety of trailer configurations, ranging from tandem hiboys and trombone trailers to 13-axle and 48-wheeler combinations.
We are looking for an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team and help keep our diverse fleet secure, reliable, and ready for the road.
The Opportunity
This position is well suited to a mechanic who takes pride in quality workmanship, can troubleshoot problems effectively, and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
You will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of heavy trucks and trailers, with a strong focus on preventative maintenance, safety and accurate record-keeping.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing on heavy trucks and trailers
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and air brake systems
- Troubleshoot engine and drivability issues
- Inspect equipment and identify potential problems before they become costly breakdowns
- Complete repairs and maintenance on highway tractors and a variety of trailer configurations
- Maintain accurate work orders, maintenance records, and repair documentation
- Ensure repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
- Work independently while communicating effectively with the rest of the team
Qualifications & Experience The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working on heavy trucks and trailers
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and air brake systems
- Experience with highway tractors, lowbeds, multi-axle trailers or other heavy-haul equipment is an asset
- Ability to accurately document inspections, repairs and maintenance
- Ability to work safely and efficiently with minimal supervision
- Strong attendance, reliability and punctuality
- A professional attitude and commitment to quality workmanship
- A willingness to work as part of a team
