Role Overview
As a Hockey Pro Shop Associate, you’ll be responsible for delivering accurate skate sharpening, qualified equipment fittings, and reliable customer support in a fast-paced environment. This role is ideal for someone who understands hockey gear, enjoys working with players, and thrives in a technical, customer-facing setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform skate sharpening, profiling, and basic equipment repairs (training provided if needed)
- Fit and recommend hockey equipment including skates, sticks, protective gear, and goalie gear
- Provide knowledgeable, friendly customer service to players, parents, and teams
- Maintain sharpening equipment, tools, and workstations
- Assist with POS transactions, special orders, and team sales
- Support inventory management, restocking, and merchandising
- Ensure the pro shop remains clean, organized, and safe during peak hours
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong knowledge of hockey equipment and skate mechanics
- Experience with skate sharpening or pro shop work is an asset
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, technical environment
- Reliable, punctual, and able to multitask during busy periods
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and game‑day rushes

About the Role Majer Hockey is seeking a Customer Service & Tech Assistant to support daily operations in our pro shop. This role combines front‑of‑shop customer interaction with hands‑on technical work, including skate sharpening, profiling, and repairs. The ideal candidate has some pro shop experience and is eager to expand their skills through our in‑depth training program.
Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service & Front Counter
- Greet customers, explain pro shop services, and assist with skate intake and pickup
- Provide clear communication on sharpening options, profiles, repairs, and turnaround times
- Maintain a professional, friendly, and efficient front‑of‑shop environment
- Process transactions using Lightspeed POS and manage customer orders accurately
Technical Pro Shop Work
- Perform skate sharpening, profiling, and basic repairs (training provided)
- Follow established shop protocols for quality, safety, and accuracy
- Assist with skate fitting using basic fitting standards and sizing guidelines
- Maintain sharpening machines, tools, and workstations
Operational & Administrative Tasks
- Use Excel for logs, tracking, and simple reporting
- Support inventory management, restocking, and equipment organization
- Ensure all customer orders are documented and completed on schedule
- Collaborate with team members to maintain smooth workflow during busy periods
Qualifications & SkillsRequired
- Some experience with skate sharpening, profiling, or repairs
- Strong customer service skills and confidence explaining technical services
- Basic computer skills, including Lightspeed POS, Excel, and general digital literacy
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail/service environment
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working evenings/weekends
Preferred
- Prior hockey retail or pro shop experience
- Familiarity with skate fitting protocols
- Strong understanding of hockey equipment and player needs
