Overview

Located at the Uy’sqwalawun Childcare Centre & Headstart Program in Nanoose First Nation, the Infant Toddler Early Childhood Educator and Special Needs (ECE-IT/SN) reports to the Daycare Manager and is responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate early childhood programs that meet the observed needs of the children and leading children in activities to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth.

The purpose of the Infant Toddler Early Childhood Educator and Special Needs (ECE-IT/SN) position is to provide direct care to children, from birth to 6 years of age. The position encourages children’s intellectual, physical and emotional growth.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Implement providing a high quality of care with emphasis on indigenous culture

· Implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the program

· Ensure the provision of nutritious snacks and lunches

· Ensure equipment and facility are clean, well maintained, and secure at all times

· Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities

· Understanding of Indigenous culture, heritage, values, and history through art and play

· Become familiar with emergency procedures

· Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities, and their child's progress

· Liaise with community supports for children with special needs

· Ensure children are supervised at all times

· Provide various experiences and activities for children to feel comfortable

· Establish routines and provide positive guidance, implementing positive experiences with children and families

· Perform cleaning duties as assigned by the Team Lead, Floor Supervisor, or UCC Manager

· Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications





· Early Childhood Educator Infant/Toddler Educator and Special Needs Certification

· Current Child Care First Aid certificate. - Infant CPR

Adherence to the ECE of BC Code of Ethics

· Ability to provide professional references.

· Diplomas, certificates or other evidence of training related to child growth/development.

· Experience working in a childcare or recreational setting.

· Successful candidates will be required to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.

Schedule

· 8 hour: all staff will be in a rotation of shifts or agreed upon as a team (set shifts)

· Day shift

· Monday to Friday

Pay: $27.50-$30.00 per hour
