Role Description The Intermediate Naval Architectural Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in St John’s, NL. This role involves developing and reviewing vessel designs, performing stability and structural analyses, and preparing engineering calculations, reports, and drawings. The engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to support new build and repair projects, assists in resolving technical issues, and ensures compliance with relevant codes, standards, and classification society requirements.
Daily responsibilities include participating in design reviews, coordinating with project managers and shipyard personnel, and providing technical input throughout the project lifecycle. The role also includes supporting continuous improvement of design processes and contributing to innovative solutions that align with client needs.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Naval Architecture and related Architecture principles, including vessel design, stability, and structural analysis.
- Experience with Project Management practices such as scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and coordination of multidisciplinary teams.
- Background in Civil Engineering or Marine Engineering disciplines relevant to hull structures, materials, and marine construction methods.
- Knowledge of Construction processes in shipbuilding or marine repair environments, including familiarity with yards, contractors, and regulatory standards.
- Demonstrated Teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, clients, and external partners.
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
- Proficiency with naval architecture and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, ShipConstructor, stability and structural analysis tools).
- Understanding of classification society rules, marine regulations, and industry standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Relevant qualified experience in marine design, shipbuilding, or repair projects at an intermediate level; eligibility for or membership in an engineering professional association is an asset.
