Junior Mechanical CAD Designer
Location: Richmond, BC, Canada
Position Overview
Dionamix Scientific is a Canadian life sciences instrumentation company developing advanced automation, fluid-handling, and analytical instrumentation.
We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Designer to support the development of precision scientific instruments. This role focuses primarily on CAD modeling, manufacturing drawings, prototype assembly, and documentation.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior engineers to convert design concepts into detailed CAD models and manufacturing documentation while supporting prototype builds and testing activities.
This position is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career mechanical designer looking to gain hands-on experience in scientific instrument development.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Prepare detailed manufacturing drawings for machined, sheet metal, and purchased components.
- Generate assembly drawings and technical documentation.
- Maintain and update Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Incorporate engineering change requests and design revisions into existing models and drawings.
- Assist with prototype assembly and mechanical integration.
- Support design verification activities by documenting test setups and recording test results.
- Coordinate with machine shops and suppliers regarding drawing revisions and fabrication requirements.
- Organize and maintain CAD files, engineering documentation, and revision history.
- Assist senior engineers with product development activities as required.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design,
Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
- Ability to create detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Basic understanding of mechanical assemblies and manufacturing processes.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Hands-on aptitude and willingness to work with prototypes and hardware.
- Positive communication skills and ability to work within a small engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications The following are considered assets but are not required:
- Experience with scientific instruments or laboratory equipment.
- Experience with machined and sheet metal parts.
- Familiarity with BOM management and revision control.
- Basic understanding of motors, sensors, and electromechanical assemblies.
- Experience assembling mechanical prototypes.
- Familiarity with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.

Compensation
- Starting salary: $18.5-22 CAD/Hr
- Performance review after probation period
- Potential increase to $25-28 CAD/Hr based on demonstrated performance and responsibilities
- Flexible working hours and locations

Pay: $18.50-$28.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40.0 per week
