This position will carry out various routine preparation, testing and analysis, following written work instructions under the direction of the Supervisor/Senior Assayer. This applies to employees working in the Digestion, Instrumentation, Fire Assay, and Sample Reduction/Preparation departments. Sample reception, sample identification, sample preparation (sorting, drying, crushing, pulverizing, screening), sample weighing, fire assay (fluxing with lead flux, fusing, cupelling), sample digestion with acids, sample dilutions, sample determinations, setting up analytical batches and analysis, batch Quality Control.

Ensure samples are logged into LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) accurately and in a quick manner. Assists in locating and retrieving of samples and responsible for sample disposal or returning samples to clients. Calibration and set up of laboratory equipment prior to analysis.

Monitor

Equipment maintenance & laboratory supplies. Follow all company health, safety and environmental policies. Follow all Quality system protocols,



report discrepancies to the Supervisor. May be asked to work in other areas of the laboratory sections.

May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed. A post secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science) is a strong asset. Strong analytical and mechanical skills.

A willingness to learn new tests, instrumentation and procedures. Must be comfortable with numerals in order to monitor data on a computer screen. Able to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and balancing conflicting demands of high volume versus the quality of results.

Must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. Extended hours and shift work. Travel to other SGS locations or client locations may be required from time to time. Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Qualified Conduct policies.
