F.H. Collins Secondary School is currently seeking a passionate educator to join our dynamic learning community. F.H.C is a dual-track English/French Immersion school serving approximately 800 students in grades 8 through 12. We provide students with a diverse range of academic, athletic performance, outdoor/experiential, trades, and arts programs. Located in the capital city of Whitehorse, Yukon, F.H.C sits alongside the Yukon River on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. This Temporary Learning Assistance Teacher - Literacy position is 1.0 FTE

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

- Bachelor of Education degree with a major in Special Education, Literacy or related field;
- Post-graduate coursework related to students with learning disabilities or literacy would be an asset;
- Demonstrated success facilitating learning opportunities to maximize student potential;




- Demonstrated success developing and implementing Student Support Plans and/or IEPs;
- Knowledge or experience in implementing benchmark (diagnostic) assessments;
- Demonstrated success collaborating with other educators in communication of learning needs and implementation of literacy and learning strategies;
- Successful teaching in a cross-cultural setting with a knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of First Nation students.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY: Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

- Extensive experience and success working with students with special needs
- Demonstrated superior planning organizational skills
- Ability to include and support Educational Assistants in the implementation of Individual Education Plans;
- A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population
- Ability to plan and implement appropriate integration of students into the appropriate school setting;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
- Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process
