Growth Opportunity — We're Looking for a Star

Loads of Fun! Laundromat Inc. — Kingston, ON

Job Type: Part time, with opportunity for permanent employment and advancement

Starting Hours: Minimum 20 hours per week

Starting Wage: Ontario minimum wage

Schedule: Days, evenings and weekends; flexibility required

Start Date: Immediately

Probationary Period: 3 months

This Isn't Just a Laundry Job

Loads of Fun! Laundromat Inc. is growing, and we're looking for someone who wants the opportunity to grow with us.

We're going to be very transparent about what that means.

This is hands-on work.

It can be physical, repetitive, fast-paced, messy and occasionally unpleasant. You will fold laundry, clean equipment, scrub washrooms, mop floors, handle customer orders, answer phones, count money, use computer systems, package orders, clean up messes and sometimes deal with laundry that most people would rather not touch.

It isn't glamorous.

But for the right person, it can be incredibly rewarding.

There is something satisfying about finishing a busy day knowing the work got done, customers were taken care of, problems were solved, the facility looks great and you were an important part of making that happen.

And for the person we're ultimately looking for, this position could become much more.

What We're Really Looking For

We're looking for a star.

Not necessarily someone with the perfect résumé.

Not necessarily someone who has worked in a laundromat before.

We're looking for someone who is:

- Exceptionally reliable and punctual
- Hardworking and willing to get their hands dirty
- Honest, transparent and accountable
- Detail-oriented
- Friendly and confident with customers
- Organized and task-oriented
- Comfortable working independently
- A strong team player
- Coachable and willing to receive feedback
- Able to communicate when something goes wrong
- Someone who notices what needs doing and takes initiative
- Interested in learning how a business actually operates
- Looking for a long-term opportunity, not simply their next temporary job

We can teach you laundry.

We can teach you our systems and procedures.

We can teach you how we serve our customers.

What we're looking for first is character, work ethic, reliability and the willingness to learn.

Where This Position Could Go

We want to be upfront about something that makes this opportunity different.

We are ultimately looking for someone who could develop into a future operational leader within our business, potentially including an Operations Manager role.

That is not the position you are being hired for today, and advancement is not guaranteed.

You will begin as a Laundry Attendant & Administrative Customer Service team member, at the starting wage and responsibilities advertised.

Why?

Because we believe great leaders should understand the work they're eventually responsible for leading.

Before someone trains another employee, they should know how to do the job themselves.

Before they oversee quality, they should understand what quality looks like.

Before they delegate a task, they should understand what they're asking someone else to do.

Before they manage our operation, they should understand our operation.

So you will learn from the ground up.

Laundry. Cleaning. Customers. Cash. Orders. Administration. Opening. Closing. Commercial accounts. Inventory. Quality control. Problem-solving. And all the little details that keep a busy operation moving.

As you demonstrate ability, consistency, initiative and leadership, there may be opportunities to take on increasing levels of responsibility.

We are willing to invest in the right person who demonstrates that they are equally willing to invest in themselves, our team and our business.

What You'll Actually Do

Your responsibilities will initially include a combination of laundry operations, cleaning, customer service and administrative support.

Laundry & Operations

You will learn to

- Receive, identify, weigh, count, sort and process customer laundry
- Operate commercial washers and dryers
- Wash, dry, fold, hang and prepare customer orders
- Follow specific customer and commercial-account instructions
- Professionally package completed orders
- Maintain accurate order identification and documentation
- Monitor supplies and inventory
- Clean and sanitize laundry carts, totes, machines and equipment
- Assist with opening and closing procedures
- Identify problems and communicate them promptly
- Support other operational tasks as required

Accuracy matters. A missing item, incorrect order,

undocumented stain, missed customer instruction or improperly packaged order can become a significant problem.

Attention to detail is essential.

Customer Service & Administration

You will also

- Greet and assist customers
- Answer questions and explain our services
- Answer telephone calls and take accurate, detailed messages
- Process cash, debit and credit transactions
- Count bills and coins and provide accurate change
- Assist with deposits and coin rolls
- Use computers, calendars, POS systems, payment terminals and other business applications
- Maintain accurate written records
- Protect confidential customer and company information
- Communicate professionally with customers, coworkers and management

We want someone who understands that customer service isn't just completing a transaction.

It means noticing the person who walked through the door, acknowledging them, listening, helping when needed, communicating professionally and making sure they leave feeling taken care of.

Cleaning Is Part of Everyone's Job

This is important.

Cleaning is not a separate position here.

You should expect to

- Sweep, mop and vacuum
- Dust and wipe surfaces
- Clean washrooms
- Clean windows and mirrors
- Clean washers, dryers and lint areas
- Empty garbage and take it to outdoor receptacles
- Wash dishes
- Clean and sanitize totes and equipment
- Maintain clean and sanitary work areas
- Complete other cleaning duties as needed

As you grow within our company, you may eventually spend less time performing some of these tasks yourself.

But nobody on our team becomes too senior to help when help is needed.

The Reality of Working With Laundry

We believe candidates deserve to know this before applying.

Our business handles laundry and materials from a wide range of residential and commercial environments.

You may occasionally encounter items involving urine, fecal matter, blood, vomit, mold, bed bugs and other human or animal contaminants.

Appropriate procedures, personal protective equipment and training will be provided as required.

You must nevertheless be comfortable working in an environment where unpleasant or heavily soiled laundry can occasionally be part of the job.

Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, which may include:

- Standing for extended periods
- Lifting and carrying items weighing up to approximately 50 lbs.
- Repeated bending, reaching, sorting and folding
- Moving laundry bags, totes and supplies
- Performing repetitive physical tasks
- Completing cleaning duties throughout the shift

This is an active, hands-on position.

Reliability & Scheduling

Reliability and punctuality are essential requirements of this job.

Our customers and other employees depend on each person arriving as scheduled and ready to work.

Employees are expected to arrive with enough time to be fully prepared and ready to begin working at their scheduled start time.

Reliable transportation is essential.

During the three-month probationary period, schedules may vary as you are trained across different shifts and areas of the operation. Flexibility is required, and some scheduling may be provided with limited or day-to-day notice based on operational needs.

Candidates must be available to work within our operating hours:

Monday–Thursday: 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.

Friday: 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

Saturday–Sunday: 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

Weekend availability is required.

Closing employees may need to remain for up to approximately one hour after posted closing time to accommodate customers completing their laundry and to complete cleaning and closing responsibilities.

A permanent position would be expected to include weekend shifts, some independent work, weekday shifts based on commercial volume and coverage for staff absences when required.

Personal Phone Use

Personal phone calls, texting and other personal phone use are not permitted during working time except during designated breaks or in the event of an emergency.

We expect our employees to be present and engaged while working.

Driving Is a Significant Asset A valid driver's licence,

clean driving record and ability to safely operate our large delivery van are significant assets.

Candidates who may be assigned company driving responsibilities must meet applicable company and insurance requirements and may be required to provide a satisfactory driver's abstract.

Qualifications

Previous laundry experience is not required.

Experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, cleaning, healthcare, administration, warehousing, food service, delivery, manufacturing or other hands-on environments may provide valuable transferable skills.

Candidates should have

- Strong spoken, written and reading skills in English
- Strong attention to detail
- Basic computer and technology skills
- Confidence handling cash and making change
- Good organizational skills
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Willingness to learn new systems and procedures
- Ability to accept coaching and constructive feedback
- Good judgment and problem-solving ability

Depending on duties and placement, successful candidates may also be required to provide applicable identification, work authorization, background screening, driver's documentation and/or complete workplace training such as WHMIS and AODA.

Before You Apply, Ask Yourself:

Am I genuinely reliable?

Can people count on me to show up when I say I will?

Am I willing to clean a washroom, fold laundry, handle an unpleasant order and help a customer—all in the same shift?

Can I accept correction without taking it personally?

If I make a mistake, will I communicate it—or try to hide it?

Can I work without someone constantly telling me what to do next?

Will I put my phone away and focus on my job?

Am I willing to learn every part of an operation before expecting to lead it?

Am I looking for somewhere I can actually grow?

If you're reading those questions and thinking,

“Yes. That's me. Just give me the chance to prove it.”

We want to hear from you.

What Success Looks Like Here

We're not looking for perfection on your first day.

We're looking for progress.

Ask questions.

Learn.

Make notes.

Take feedback.

Don't make the same mistake over and over.

Communicate.

Notice things.

Take ownership.

Help your teammates.

Care about the customer.

Care about the finished product.

Care about the name on the door.

Over time, we want you to understand not just what you're doing, but why you're doing it.

That's how someone becomes valuable to an operation.

And that's how someone eventually becomes capable of leading one.

The Chance Is Real. But It Has to Be Earned.

We aren't promising every person who accepts this job a management position.

We are saying that we're actively looking for someone with the potential to become an important long-term member and future leader within our company.

Your first three months will give us both an opportunity to determine whether this is the right fit.

Candidates will be evaluated through our interview process, practical assessment, training and probationary period.

If you demonstrate that you can handle more, we want to give you opportunities to do more.

If you grow, we want the position to have the opportunity to grow with you.

Because we believe the stronger our people become, the stronger our business becomes—and as the business succeeds, we want to create greater opportunities for the people who helped us build it.

Think You Might Be Our Star?

Don't send us the résumé you think we want to see.

Show us who you are.

Tell us what you've done.

Tell us what you've learned.

Tell us what you're proud of.

Tell us about the jobs that taught you how to work.

And most importantly, tell us why you believe you're the person we're looking for.

We don't expect you to walk through our doors knowing everything. We expect you to walk through them ready to learn.
