Kelley Law Office is seeking a full time real estate and corporate law clerk with at least 1 year of experience in a law office within Ontario. The position is an in-person position at our Mississauga Office, with prospects of being remote once a year of tenure has been completed with the firm.
Our practice is a busy practice in the areas of Real Estate Law, Corporate/Commercial, Mortgage Law and Civil Litigation. Candidates should have experience handling transactions from start to finish in any of the aforementioned areas.
Candidates must possess
- Keen attention to detail and proofreading/grammar skills are essential for this role. The ability to both multi-task and take initiative to work independently are required in the candidate;
- Demonstrated ability to handle all aspects of residential or commercial purchase and sale transactions and mortgage transactions, including reviewing agreements, noting critical dates, submitting off-title search requests, conducting and reviewing all searches, preparing requisition letters and closing documents; OR
- Demonstrated ability to handle all aspects of immigration transactions, including intake, reviewing evidence, noting critical dates, submitting search requests, conducting and reviewing all research, preparing correspondence and forms, and submitting files;
- The candidate should have a general knowledge of law office practices and procedures;
- A strong attention to detail;
- The candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, Divorcemate and the Realtiweb/Unity/Conveyancer software. PC Law, Teraview is a bonus;
- Ability to use good judgement and discretion when responding to issues or requests, in a professional and courteous manner;
- Superior written, verbal and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to work both independently and in a team workplace are required.
- Proficiency in a second language is valued in our firm; and
- At least a Legal Assistant Diploma from an accredited institution.
Duties will include:
- Collaborating and assisting lawyers;
- Managing and completing residential or commercial purchase, sale and mortgage files from start to finish; OR
- Managing and completing immigration files from start to finish;
- Preparing and reviewing legal documents & agreements;
- Organizing and coordinating of files;
- Conducting and reviewing title and off-title searches and drafting and responding to requisitions;
- Correspondence with clients, lawyers, banks and others as required;
- Scheduling meetings as required;
- Strong priority-setting skills and effective organization skills to complete tasks and meet deadlines;
- Ordering title insurance policies and filing claims;
- Drafting reporting letters, statement of adjustments, statements of account and bank reports on title; and
- Compiling documents to be signed by clients and reporting packages.
