Duties & Responsibilities:
As the Lead Brewer, you will be responsible for various aspects of beer and cider production, ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to industry standards. Your key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing all brewing and cellar operations, including wort production, fermentation management, and ensuring all processes are executed and documented properly.
- Training and mentoring team members to build and maintain a skilled and competent production team.
- Coordinating daily brewery operations, prioritizing and delegating tasks to maintain an effective workflow.
- Assisting with packaging operations, including canning line setup, breakdown, operation, and maintenance.
- Following and enforcing cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance schedules to uphold quality standards.
- Assisting with inventory counts of raw materials, finished beer, and cider.
- Maintaining a clean and organized workspace, ensuring adherence to safety and sanitation standards.
- Preparing packaged goods for shipment and assisting other team members as needed.
- Adhering to all SYC Brewing policies and procedures, as well as staying informed on local, provincial, and federal regulations related to alcohol service, food safety, and health standards.
- Completing all required documentation accurately and on time.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Post-secondary education (a brewing diploma is a plus but not required).
- A background in science (chemistry, biology, yeast metabolism, and fermentation knowledge is beneficial but not mandatory).
- Basic laboratory skills and an understanding of bacterial contamination risks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain high-quality standards.
- Initiative, problem-solving skills, and the ability to troubleshoot issues independently.
- A responsible and reliable work ethic.
- Basic computer literacy for tracking production data and inventory.
- The physical ability to lift up to 70 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Eligibility to work in Canada.
