Mission Island Group (MIG) is a locally owned waste management and recycling company serving Greater Victoria since 2000.

We're seeking a Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician to lead maintenance activities across our loaders, excavators, material handlers, telehandlers, stationary processing equipment, and support fleet assets. Reporting to the Senior Materials Manager, you'll be responsible for equipment reliability, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and shop coordination that keep essential operations moving.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment and processing assets
- Lead maintenance planning and prioritize repairs based on operational requirements
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and powertrain systems
- Coordinate parts,



vendors, and third-party service providers
- Maintain work orders and equipment records using fleet management software
- Mentor apprentices and technicians while promoting safe, quality workmanship
- Identify reliability improvements that reduce downtime and extend equipment life

Qualifications

Required

- Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician Certification
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Experience maintaining heavy off-highway or industrial equipment
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and lead maintenance activities

Assets

- Class 3 or Class 1 Driver's Licence
- Fleetio or fleet maintenance software experience
- Leadership, Lead Hand, or Foreman experience
- Experience in waste management, recycling, trucking, construction, forestry, or aggregates
