Maintenance Manager

Position Responsibilities

- Provide for the maintenance of the buildings to a professional standard of appearance as governed by the CYFSA, building codes, the health department and the fire department, scheduling and coordinating all inspections required for annual Ministry license renewals.
- Perform routine building checks to ensure that facilities are up to current safety standards and that they are aesthetically pleasing. This includes buildings, grounds around facilities, fire routes, parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, decks, exterior stairs, etc., completing or coordinating the completion of any required repairs.
- Maintain a spreadsheet for managers to make maintenance requests and complete the work in order of the identified priority.
- Perform maintenance and repair activities related to electrical, plumbing, and carpentry as needed or directed, and/or arrange for the services of a professional tradesperson to perform the tasks where legally required.
- Submit capital expenditure proposals for larger renovation projects, obtain the approval of the Director of Finance for the expenditure, and coordinate the hiring and supervise the subsequent work of any specialized trades persons as required.
- Purchase necessary raw materials and equipment, maintaining detailed expense records, obtaining the advance approval of the Director of Finance for extraordinary expenses.
- Be on-call and provide emergency after-hours repairs where there is a safety issue and the work cannot wait for the following workday, and/or where the delay of a repair may cause a disruption to services.




- Maintain and manage Bayfield’s small drinking water system and its equipment in a safe and sanitary condition in order to:
- Ensure that all water provided by the system meets the requirements established by regulation or under the Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards.
- Ensure that the small drinking water system is operated in accordance with the requirements under regulation and is maintained in a fit state of repair.
- Ensure that all sampling, testing, monitoring, reporting and remedial requirements under regulation are complied with.

1. Ensure that hand and power tools, sharp objects and hazardous materials are not accessible to Bayfield’s clients and are locked up after each use.
2. Ensure that all Bayfield policies and procedures are adhered to and practiced.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Experience and skill in general maintenance and repair activities related to drywall and painting, replacing doors and windows, as well as basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry skills.
- Must become certified (on-line course) and maintain certification in the operation of small drinking water systems.
- Must have a G driver’s license, the use of a vehicle (mileage currently paid at $0.55/km), and be able to be insured on the company’s insurance policy.
- Basic knowledge on the safe use of various carpentry equipment.



The successful candidate will supply their own hand tools and portable power tools - large, stationary equipment (planer, table saw, band saw, jointer, etc.) is available for use in office.
- Self-motivation and conscientiousness are essential personality traits for this position, and the employee must be organized, self-disciplined, dutiful, and achievement oriented.

Eligibility for the following benefit coverage upon successful completion of the probationary period:

- Vacation:
- After the commencement of employment 4% vacation pay and 2 weeks of vacation leave.
- After 2 years of service, 6% of vacation pay and 3 weeks of vacation leave.
- After 5 years of service, 8% of vacation pay and 4 weeks of vacation leave.
- After 11 years of service, 10% of vacation pay and 5 weeks of vacation leave.
- After 18 years of service, 12% of vacation pay and 6 weeks of vacation leave.
- An additional week of vacation and 2% vacation pay per year as renumeration for being on call.

1. 72 hours annual paid sick leave (accrued at the rate of 6 hours per month).

6. Vision - $300.00 every 2 years.
