1. Role Purpose The role is positioned within NEPI’s Fabrication Engineering function, which supports nuclear manufacturing by converting customer and design-authority inputs into executable fabrication packages.
2. Role Deliverables The Fabrication Engineering delivers the following:
1. GA’s and detailed fabrication drawing packages
2. Material BOMs (c/w material specifications; piece-part processing details; DXFs)
3. Fabrication Sequence; HLoA
4. Master Production Orders (c/w ERP BOMs and routings)
5. QC Inspection Sheets (design and in-process parameters)
6. Fixture/Jig design
7. Equipment and Tooling selection
8. Equipment design as a part of NEPI’s capital/operations projects
3. Key Accountabilities
- Review & understanding of client Design Specifications (DS) and Fabrication Specifications (FS)
· Resolve design ambiguities and manufacturability constraints early in the project lifecycle; resolve real-time fabrication challenges
- Fabrication Drawing Packages
· Adhere to NEPI’s drafting standards; review and release fabrication drawings in accordance with NEPI’s QPM and document control procedures
· Responsible for Engineering accuracy and production readiness of fabrication packages
- Material BOMs
Develop and maintain accurate Material BOMs, ensuring alignment with drawings and project requirements. Work closely with Procurement to support material sourcing activities and maintain a strong understanding of NEPI’s approved vendor network, supplier capabilities, and raw material supply chain
- Manufacturability Reviews
Actively participate in design reviews for new product developments, providing manufacturing-focused input, identifying potential fabrication challenges, and recommending practical design alternatives that improve manufacturability, quality, cost, safety, and production efficiency
- Manufacturing Sequence
Develop practical manufacturing routings and operation sequences in collaboration with the Production team; ensure that fabrication activities are logically planned, executable, and correctly reflected within production orders
- Fixture/Jig
· Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and repeatability by proactively collaborating with Production personnel to assess fabrication challenges
· Design and implement practical jigs, fixtures, and tooling solutions
4. Qualifications
Ø Education & Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree (or College Diploma) in Mechanical Engineering — required
· 7+ years of engineering experience; mechanical CAD/drafting to practical manufacturing experience preferably in a heavy fabrication environment
· C.E.T. or EIT (PEO) designation — preferred
Ø Technical Skills
· CAD and drafting skills required: SolidWorks/PDM
· Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Inspection (DFI) principles
