Job Purpose
Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the Shop Coordinator will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our fabrication shop. This position involves managing critical documentation, assisting in work package creation, and supporting data collection for progress and cost tracking. A fundamental requirement is the ability to interpret and comprehend piping drawings.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage document transmittals, ensuring the accurate and timely exchange of project-related information.
- Maintain an organized filing system for drawings, specifications, correspondence, approvals, and other project documentation.
- Support document control processes to ensure records comply with company and project requirements.
- Review shop drawings for compliance with project specifications, fabrication requirements, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with engineering, quality control, fabrication, and project teams to resolve discrepancies and facilitate required revisions and approvals.
- Assist in preparing complete work packages, including drawings, specifications, procedures, instructions, and supporting documentation.
- Collect and maintain project data, including labour hours allocated to project numbers, material usage, equipment utilization, costs, schedules, and progress.
- Prepare reports, summaries, and progress updates for the Superintendent and other project stakeholders.
- Read and interpret P&IDs;, piping isometrics, fabrication drawings, and related project specifications.
- Identify and communicate drawing discrepancies,
missing information, and potential fabrication concerns to the appropriate teams.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Materials Engineering Technology (MET), Or Civil Engineering Technology (CET) is preferred
- Previous experience in document control, shop coordination, or a related role in pipe fabrication
- Proficiency in reading and comprehending piping drawings, including P&IDs; and isometrics
- CSTS-2020 certification is required
- WHIMIS certification is required

Working Conditions The incumbent is required to work in the fabrication shop with moderate noise and numerous hazardous fumes. Physical Requirements The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing weld specifications for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time and will require good physical attributes for walking on uneven ground, climbing, confined space entry, limited lifting, and sitting.
