This position will be responsible for providing occupational therapy services to the residents of Margaret Stewart Ellis Home, O’Leary and Maplewood Manor, Alberton. The position works in collaboration with family and other staff to maintain or enhance the independence and participation of residents in meaningful activities. This includes assessment and recommendations in areas of daily living such as eating, seating, mobility and leisure.

This position provides an appropriate type and level of service, which maintains or improves the current functioning and/or ensures the safety and comfort of the resident. They will provide education, support, and consultation for staff, residents and their families.

Duties will include but not limited to:

- conducting functional assessments to determine the need for occupational therapy;
- developing, planning and implementing appropriate occupational therapy for the client;
- collaborates with the activity department to set up therapeutic activities that will help maintain the clients physical and social abilities;
- working independently to respond to client inquiries, provide follow-up care and/or make referrals to other health care providers and community agencies;
- acting as a resource person to other team members, and health care providers
- performing administrative functions such as updating client information files and planning and organizing work activities;
- supervising, guiding, and appraising the performance of staff in relation to OT therapies;
- provide appropriate education on the OT therapies and the use of equipment to staff;
- participates in the MSIP program and committee meetings and other relevant committees;




- maintain an up to date inventory of equipment and ensure that it is in good working condition;
- Sourcing out the appropriate equipment/ funding to meet a client’s needs;
- assisting in the development of provincial policies and procedures;
- recording and reporting statistical and outcome measures data; and,
- performing other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Successful completion of a Master’s Degree or equivalent on Occupational Therapy
- Eligible for licensing with the Prince Edward Island College of Occupational Therapists
- Considerable experience working as a practicing Occupational Therapist
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with clients, families, and community organizations.
- A positive previous work and attendance record.

Other Qualifications:

- Experience working with adult/senior population in a long-term care setting would be considered an asset.
- Experience with adult seating would be considered an asset.
- Transferring, Lifting, Repositioning (TLR) Training would be considered an asset.
- Additional relevant education and experience would be considered an asset.

Salary Range: $39.93 - $48.99 per hour

Bi-Weekly Hours: 75 Hours Bi-Weekly / Days / Flexible
