The Art Gallery of Ontario seeks a full time Conservator specializing in paper artworks. Located in Toronto, this role emphasizes preventive care, research, and education in art preservation. You will work under the Head of Conservation to evaluate and treat paper-based artworks, ensuring their longevity and stability.
This role includes advising on acquisitions, loans, exhibitions, and engaging with the art community through public lectures and workshops. You’ll play a vital role in developing conservation protocols and standards. Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and treat conservation problems on paper artworks
- Document findings and prepare reports on conservation treatments
- Define standards for environmental conditions affecting artworks
- Consult with external institutions on conservation issues
- Stay updated on conservation advancements and practices Requirements:
- Master’s degree in conservation with five years of experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of conservation techniques for paper
- Ability to conduct precise technical examinations
- Robust visual discrimination and problem-solving skills
