Position Summary
Casual Part-Time Support Staff, new position (Immediate need to April 24, 2027)
The Part-time Bloom Grab n Go Assistant supports daily operations at the Grab & Go counter within the Bloom restaurant at Conestoga’s Waterloo campus. Working in an environment primarily staffed by student employees, the incumbent helps ensure a positive customer experience, consistent product quality, and adherence to food service standards.
The role is responsible for maintaining retail inventory, stocking and rotating products, and assisting with the training and day-to-day guidance of student staff. The incumbent also contributes to the cleanliness, organization, and effective operation of the service area.
Successful candidates will be scheduled to work on-site up to 24 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., at the Waterloo campus, located at 108 University Ave. E. in Waterloo.
Responsibilities
Customer service and operations
- Provide professional, welcoming service to customers and respond to inquiries
- Process customer purchases using the point-of-sale (POS) system
- Ensure the Grab & Go counter remains staffed and operational during business hours
- Support the maintenance of the hot beverage station throughout the day
Product and inventory management
- Complete opening duties and inspect products, removing items as directed by the Chef
- Stock and maintain retail refrigerators, freezers, and display cases in accordance with established procedures
- Monitor product shelf life and rotate inventory to ensure freshness and minimize waste
- Restock or remove products as required to maintain consistent product availability
Food preparation and quality assurance
- Assist Chefs with food preparation activities as required
- Support quality assurance practices and food safety standards
- Ensure compliance with safe food handling procedures
Student staff support
- Assist with the onboarding and training of student employees
- Provide day-to-day guidance on customer service, food preparation, and standard operating procedures
- Escalate student employee concerns or performance issues to management
Workplace maintenance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment
- Ensure service areas, storage spaces, and equipment are properly cleaned and prepared for subsequent shifts
- Ensure adequate supplies and inventory are available for ongoing operations
Qualifications
- Completion of a one-year post-secondary program in Hospitality, Culinary Arts, Food Service or a related field is required
- Current Safe Food Handling certification is required
- Minimum two years of experience in food service, hospitality, café, restaurant or related setting is required
- Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service
- Experience with food preparation, including safe knife handling practices
- Knowledge of food safety standards, inventory control, and product rotation practices
- Ability to safely operate basic kitchen equipment
- Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to provide constructive guidance and support to student employees
