Shift: Friday to Tuesday 08:00-17:00

TransX Ltd has an exciting opportunity for a Planner Level 1 to join our Operations Department. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for the daily regional plan for the specified areas. Primary daily tasks involve identifying assets and allocating them to the freight in a cost effective, productive manner, whilst both meeting customer requirements and aiding in the success of our drivers.

It is the planner’s responsibility to ensure all freight is covered to service on time, and all available drivers are planned.

A planner is expected to “own” the region and know what is going on within the area at all times. Key responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of truckload transportation, optimizing routing and scheduling, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role manages and coordinates transportation resources to meet service level agreements (SLAs) and builds a high-performing team through development and succession planning.

Building strong relationships with CSRs, customers, dispatchers, and drivers is key for the planner as well, and will help the individual to flourish in this position.

Responsibilities





Identifying Assets and Allocating Freight

Plan right type of trucks on right type of loads ensuring drivers get at least 500 miles a day.

Ensuring loads are planned to service on time by checking drivers time off/hours of service

Reporting of Imbalance of trucks Vs loads

Preplan at least 3 days in advance

Focus on picking up loads direct from Customer and avoid City driver pick up’s

Clean up late to start report daily.

Ensuring Service, Minimizing Downtime, Monitoring Equipment

Preplan of trailers for live loads and drop switches at Customers

Determine the size and scope of projects

SA the orders and communicate to CSR for any late loads for rebook.

Analyze distribution process and make improvement suggestions as necessary

Preparing reports to upper-management to help with decision-making

Work on Planning KPI – minimizing Empty miles, Brokerage, LOS, Utilization, late to start report

Communications and Relationship Building

Area balance to be sent out daily for same day and next day and for the whole weekend on Friday

Sales needs to be communicated to CSR/Sales teams for loads.

Relationship with Outbound Customers, Shops, Terminal

Communicate with suppliers or clients to work out specifics for delivery.

Qualifications

Secondary Education – Preferably in logistics or supply chain management

Logistics / Supply Chain experience an asset

Computer proficient in a variety of software applications (MS Office, proprietary engine and component software programs, call centre applications, etc.)





Excellent communication skills

Capable of multi-tasking with keen ability to prioritize

Practiced in Time Management, with superior organizational skills.

Able to adapt to daily changes and effectively deal with stressful situations

Able to make decisions with limited supervision

Analytical thinking

Computer literate & Proficient

Able to accurately identify and proactively resolve problems

Knowledge of the trucking industry and associated rules and regulations (ex. Hours of service regulations)
