We are seeking a Planning Manager to join our Edmonton team. This senior role is suited to an experienced planning professional with strong land development expertise, Alberta municipal planning knowledge, and the ability to lead planning assignments, client relationships, business development, and team growth.

What You’ll Do

As Planning Manager, you will lead Scheffer Andrew’s planning practice, support private and public sector clients, guide project delivery, mentor staff, and help grow the company’s planning and land development services across Alberta.

Key responsibilities include

Project Leadership

- Lead complex land development and municipal planning projects through approvals, including ASPs, outline plans, redistricting, subdivisions, and related applications.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, resources, client expectations, and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Provide senior technical guidance, prepare and deliver presentations, and support public engagement with clients, municipalities, stakeholders, and approval authorities.
- Support proposals, work plans, fee estimates, budget tracking, invoicing review, and project reporting.

Management

- Lead, mentor, and support planning staff while promoting accountability, collaboration, technical development, and strong client service.




- Support workload planning, staffing needs, talent development, and a positive team culture.

Business Development

- Develop and support business development strategies, client relationships, proposal opportunities, and growth of planning services.
- Represent Scheffer Andrew professionally with clients, municipalities, industry partners, and project stakeholders.

What You Bring

- Urban planning degree or similar, with Registered Professional Planner designation or eligibility for membership with APPI or another recognized Canadian planning institute.
- Minimum 15 years of land use planning experience, including consulting, leadership, land development, and municipal approvals experience in Alberta.
- Strong knowledge of ASPs, outline plans, redistricting, subdivision design, public engagement, and land development approval processes.
- Experience presenting to municipal Councils, committees, boards, clients, and stakeholder groups.
- Familiarity with Alberta municipal approvals in the City of Edmonton, City of Calgary and surrounding municipalities.
- Demonstrated project management, business development, team leadership, mentorship, communication, and client service skills.
