About the Position
We are a small, family-owned property management company in Calgary seeking an experienced, dependable, and detail-oriented Property Accountant to join our team.
This is a hands-on position for someone who is comfortable managing the day-to-day accounting needs of a property management company and enjoys working in a smaller team workplace.
The successful candidate will work closely with ownership, property management, and our external accountant.
We offer a competitive salary based on experience and qualifications, to be discussed during the interview process.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting for multiple properties and corporate entities
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- Maintain general ledgers and prepare journal entries
- Maintain tenant ledgers, rent payments, security deposits, credits, and account adjustments
- Process payroll and maintain accurate payroll records
- Prepare and coordinate CRA payroll remittances, including CPP, EI, and income tax
- Assist with GST preparation, reporting, and reconciliations
- Work with our external accountant on government remittances, year-end, and tax matters
- Review, code, and process vendor invoices and payments
- Maintain and reconcile intercompany transactions
- Prepare monthly financial reports and account reconciliations
- Complete commercial property CAM/operating cost and property tax reconciliations
- Assist with annual budgets and expense tracking
- Prepare year-end working papers and supporting documentation
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in property management or real estate
- Strong full-cycle accounting experience
- Proficiency in QuickBooks
- Experience with Yardi property management software strongly preferred
- Experience with payroll and CRA remittances
- Knowledge of GST reporting and reconciliation
- Strong understanding of AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounting
- Experience working with multiple companies or corporate entities is an asset
- Commercial property accounting and CAM reconciliation experience is an asset
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
- Ability to work independently, prioritize deadlines, and follow tasks through to completion
An accounting diploma or degree is preferred, however, equivalent hands-on accounting experience will be considered. A CPA designation is not required.
