We’re looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Public Area Attendant / Janitorial Staff team member to help us maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation across Red Deer Resort & Casino. The ideal candidate has prior experience in a similar janitorial, housekeeping, or cleaning role, takes pride in their work, and understands the importance of creating a welcoming, clean, and protected environment for both guests and staff.

Summary

Under the direction of the Executive Housekeeper, the Public Area Attendant / Janitorial Staff is responsible for cleaning and maintaining public areas and public washrooms throughout the property, ensuring they are clean, safe, hygienic, and properly presented. The Public Area Attendant / Janitorial Staff promotes a positive image of the property to guests and is expected to be pleasant, friendly, professional, and able to address guest concerns or special requests appropriately.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Efficiently clean assigned public areas, including washrooms, fitness centre, pool areas, restaurants, lounges, lobby, elevators, hallways, and other common areas.
- Perform general janitorial duties throughout assigned areas of the property.
- Clean and maintain all assigned service areas, ensuring they remain clean, safe, and hygienic.
- Undertake scheduled and specialized cleaning programs in accordance with required performance standards.
- Pack and replenish cleaning trolleys to the required standard at the end of each shift and ensure trolleys are kept neat and organized.
- Advise the Supervisor/Manager of stock shortages and any damaged or broken cleaning tools or equipment.
- Respond to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner.




- Record lost property items found in public areas and provide them to the Supervisor/Manager in accordance with established procedures.
- Promptly report maintenance concerns and safety hazards to the Supervisor/Manager.
- Take personal responsibility for cleaning equipment, ensuring it is operated correctly, safely, and securely at all times.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of cleaning chemicals and products, including proper handling and safety procedures.
- Attend departmental briefings, training sessions, and meetings as directed by the Supervisor/Manager.
- Report any unusual or suspicious persons or activities to the Supervisor/Manager or Security to help ensure the safety and well-being of both guests and staff.
- Replace and report missing or depleted supplies in public areas, including paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and other required supplies.
- The immediate Supervisor/Manager may adjust duties and responsibilities depending on the operational needs of the property.
- Perform other janitorial, housekeeping, and cleaning duties as required.

Education, Qualifications and Requirements
- Previous experience as a Public Area Attendant, Janitorial Staff, Cleaner, Housekeeping Attendant, or in a similar cleaning role is preferred.
- Must be able to provide a satisfactory criminal record check.
- Must be physically capable of performing all duties associated with the position.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Strong knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and cleaning equipment.




- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification is considered an asset.
- Strong work ethic and a positive team attitude.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English.
- Comfortable using common household and commercial cleaning chemicals and products.
- First Aid/CPR certification is preferred.

Work Environment

- Ability to stand and walk repeatedly throughout the course of a shift.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to heat, cold, and water.
- Experience using public-area and janitorial cleaning equipment, including floor scrubbers, commercial vacuums, and steam cleaners.
- Must frequently lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this position, employees may be required to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, and crouch.
- Regular exposure to contaminants, industrial cleaning chemicals, dust, dirt, and other conditions associated with janitorial and cleaning duties.

Hours of Work The hours of work for this position will vary depending on operational requirements and may include early mornings, evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
