Job Summary The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Quality Assurance Laboratory, including testing, staffing, and compliance activities. This role also serves as a key technical resource to other departments on quality processes, food safety programs, and regulatory requirements.
The QA Supervisor leads and mentors QA Lab staff, ensuring all sampling, testing, data collection, and reporting are conducted accurately and in compliance with company procedures, food safety standards, and health and safety regulations. This role plays a critical leadership function in maintaining and advancing quality systems across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations & Oversight
- Supervise and coordinate QA laboratory operations, including sampling, testing, and reporting activities.
- Ensure accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of all lab testing and documentation.
- Maintain laboratory records, logs, and forms in accordance with established procedures.
- Oversee maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment and ensure adequate supply levels.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and mentor QA Lab staff to ensure high performance and adherence to procedures.
- Support onboarding and training of new employees, including GMP and allergen training.
- Act as backup to the Quality Assurance Manager, Quality Processing Specialist and Quality Systems Coordinator as required.
Quality Systems & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality programs.
- Enforce health and safety procedures in both laboratory and production environments.
- Lead GMP audits and support company-wide quality initiatives.
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Assist with the investigation of quality issues, conduct root cause analysis,
and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs).
- Stay current with technical developments and industry best practices.
Supplier & Cross-Functional Support
- Monitor the quality and integrity of incoming and in-house ingredients.
- Support Quality Processing Specialist with ongoing investigations, testing and contact with suppliers
- Provide technical support to Production, R&D;, and other departments on quality-related matters.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field (e.g., Food Science, Chemistry, Biology).
- 5–7 years of experience in a food manufacturing laboratory environment.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experiences are considered an asset.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of food industry quality assurance programs and standards.
- Thorough understanding of WHMIS, SDS, and health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- In-depth knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, and testing methodologies (chemical and physical analysis).
- Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and mentoring capabilities.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- High attention to detail with solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and perform effectively in high-pressure situations.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Prolonged standing and walking in lab and production environments
- Manual dexterity required for laboratory work and computer use
- Average work week of 44 hours, with overtime as required

Compensation
At Chapman’s, compensation is guided by a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes and rewards individual contributions.
Salary / Wages
$75,000 to $85,000
In addition to wages, employees will be eligible for:
