Our Orthopaedic

Unit (6 E) is a fast-paced acute care unit within the Surgical Program that practices team nursing model. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to provide high-quality care to a diverse group of patients and families. The unit specializes in the management of acute orthopaedic patients—including trauma, joint reconstruction, and complex surgical cases—while also supporting all surgical services at the site. This role is an integral part of the care team, providing leadership, mentorship, and education to patients, families, and colleagues. Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident,



the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required.Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required.Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years,

Additional Required Qualifications: One year of recent (within the last 2 years) of adult acute inpatient experience. A recent successful preceptorship in orthopaedic/surgical may be considered (within the last 2 years). Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills. Excellent assessment and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast paced, highly stressful workplace.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years of recent adult acute orthopaedic/surgical experience (within the last 3 years) preferred. Charge nurse experience. Inpatient connect care proficiency.
