Omicron is looking for a Senior Project Accountant to join our Accounting team and play a key role in strengthening the financial performance of our projects.
This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys getting into the details, understanding what is driving project results, and working closely with Project Managers to improve financial outcomes. You will be a key financial partner to our project teams, providing financial oversight, analysis, and support throughout the project lifecycle. The role has a strong focus on cost control, forecasting, timely billing and reporting, and early identification of financial risks and opportunities.
Project Financial
Management, Cost Control & Reporting Provide financial oversight for a portfolio of projects, with a strong focus on cost control, forecasting, profitability, cash flow, and financial accountability. Maintain and review project budgets, commitments, actual costs, forecasts, cost-to-complete estimates, and projected margins to identify cost overruns, forecast gaps, margin erosion, unrecorded commitments, scope changes, and other emerging financial risks. Challenge project forecasts and cost-to-complete assumptions to ensure they are complete, realistic, current, and reflect the project team’s best assessment of expected outcomes.
Lead regular project financial reviews with Project Managers, providing meaningful analysis, identifying required corrective actions, and following financial issues through to resolution with clear accountability and timelines. Support month‑end, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including accruals, revenue recognition, KPIs, project dashboards, and other project-related financial reporting requirements. Billing, Cash Flow & Working Capital Manage and oversee the project billing process to ensure invoices are complete, accurate, supported, and issued on a timely basis.
Monitor project billing status, unbilled amounts, holdbacks, approved and pending change orders,
and other items affecting project cash flow. Review accounts receivable and work with Project Managers to drive timely collection of outstanding amounts, escalating issues and ensuring appropriate follow‑up where required. Support project cash flow forecasting and proactively identify issues that may adversely impact project cash flow and working capital.
Ensure subcontractor invoices, holdbacks, commitments, and other project financial obligations are appropriately recorded and managed in accordance with contract terms and company requirements.
Project
Accounting & Financial Controls Ensure projects are established and maintained accurately in Omicron’s financial systems, including budgets, cost codes, commitments, contract values, change orders, billing information, and other key financial data, in accordance with accounting policies and applicable Project Delivery System (PDS) standards and controls Maintain a strong understanding of project contractual requirements and identify financial or commercial issues that may affect project performance Support project closeout by ensuring outstanding commitments, billing, collections, holdbacks, and other financial matters are resolved on a timely basis You bring a strong cost‑control mindset. You have a robust commercial mindset, balancing attention to detail with an understanding of project profitability, cash flow, and risk. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant project accounting experience. ~ Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline. ~ Experience in architecture, engineering, construction, design‑build, construction management, or another project‑based environment is strongly preferred. ~ Strong knowledge of project accounting, including job costing, forecasting, cost‑to‑complete, revenue recognition, billing, commitments, change orders, cash flow, and profitability.
~ Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong financial systems capability. ~ Knowledge of construction contracts and applicable lien legislation is an asset. ~ CPA designation or active CPA candidacy is preferred. If you need to work from home occasionally for personal reasons (an appointment, school drop‑off, etc.), We trust our teams to manage their time responsibly while staying connected to the work and to each other. The annual base salary range for this role is $90,000 to $120,000 , with the starting salary determined based on experience and qualifications. Omicron also offers a comprehensive benefits and total rewards package as outlined above, along with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus.
