Location - This role is hybrid, with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus, Edmonton.

Reporting to the Director, Office of Research, the Research Coordinator in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) assists in the design and implementation of operational systems and structures that further the research services vision and support disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and cross-sector research activities, including large-scale research activities and research administration.

The Research Coordinator assists with continuous process improvement to enhance effectiveness and efficiency in the administration of the portfolios and designs and implements solutions to operational challenges.

Responsibilities

Communications:

- Acts as the first point of contact for a variety of research teams needing support or access to programs or services.
- Helps build resources, toolkits and best practice documents to triage inquiries about programs from researchers, academic leaders and other team members.
- Helps generate and celebrate successful research projects by maintaining websites, blogs, or other communication platforms.

Document/Materials Development:
- Proofreads and reformats documents.
- Assists with development, design, and production of resources on program(s) in accordance with established Faculty/ College/ University policies/procedures.

Program Operations:
- Maintains accurate records of interactions, office-related decisions and/or actions taken.
- Provides administrative support for off-campus events and research field trips.
- Organizes meetings, conferences, seminars and special events on behalf of the area/program(s).
- Coordinates travel arrangements for supervisor and others when travelling for area/ program business or for recruitment purposes.
- Provides administrative support for standing and special meetings, including coordinating documents and agendas, anticipating and preparing supporting materials, and distributing meeting minutes.
- Coordinates Visiting Speaker/Colloquia events.
- Serves as recording secretary to area/ program Committees.

Facilities/ Security:




- Liaises with Facilities and Operations on behalf of the area or academic leader.
- Ensures signage is current and accurate for the area. Determines appropriate areas to display area identity items, arranges for mounting/display of items, and monitors the ongoing condition of displays.
- Communicates relevant facilities and operations information to ensure all area staff are informed of activities that may affect them.

Qualifications

- Diploma in business or office administration, or equivalent experience, is required.
- 3 years of progressive research administrative experience in a University setting.
- High proficiency in Microsoft and Google suites.
- Knowledge of FOIPP and records retention practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of University of Alberta policies and procedures, particularly where they intersect with research administration, is an asset.
- Experience with PeopleSoft.
