Senior Designer – Luxury Residential & Custom Interiors

Genuwine Cellars | Winnipeg, Manitoba

Full-Time | In-Office | Senior-Level Position

Salary: $65,000–$150,000 per year, based on experience and capabilities

About Genuwine Cellars

Genuwine Cellars is a globally recognized designer and manufacturer of luxury custom wine cellars, creating highly tailored spaces for exceptional residences, hospitality environments, and commercial projects throughout Canada, the United States, and internationally.

Our projects sit at the intersection of interior design, architecture, millwork, engineering, and luxury craftsmanship. Every cellar is custom, requiring a thoughtful balance of design vision, technical understanding, client service, and attention to detail.

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Designer to join our Winnipeg team and take a leading role in the design, development, and client experience of our custom projects.

This is an ideal position for an experienced interior designer, architectural designer, or environmental designer who is highly creative, technically capable, exceptionally organized, and comfortable working directly with discerning clients, architects, interior designers, builders, and other industry professionals.

The Role The Senior Designer will act as a primary point of contact during the consultation, design, proposal, and pre-contract stages of our custom wine cellar projects.

You will be responsible for understanding a client's vision, translating it into a compelling design direction, working with our internal design and technical teams, developing project scope and budgets, presenting concepts and proposals, managing design revisions, and guiding clients toward an approved design and signed contract.

The role is focused on design, client relationships, and the development of new projects through the point of sale. Once a project has been contracted and the deposit received, it transitions to Genuwine's dedicated team for production and project delivery.

This is not solely a drafting or traditional interior design position.

The successful candidate must be equally comfortable discussing aesthetics with an interior designer, reviewing architectural drawings with a builder, presenting a six-figure proposal to a homeowner, and collaborating internally to develop a technically appropriate project scope.

You will often represent Genuwine directly to high-net-worth homeowners and some of the world's leading architects, designers, builders, developers, and hospitality professionals. Professionalism, confidence, discretion, and exceptional communication are essential.

Key Responsibilities

- Serve as a primary client contact throughout the consultation, design, proposal, and pre-contract process.
- Lead client discovery meetings to understand aesthetic preferences, functional requirements, architectural conditions, timelines, and budgets.
- Develop creative design concepts for highly customized residential and commercial wine cellars.
- Review architectural drawings, floor plans, elevations, millwork details, and relevant site information during the design process.
- Collaborate with Genuwine's internal design and technical teams to develop cohesive and technically appropriate design solutions.
- Develop complete proposed project scopes that may include custom wine racking, architectural millwork, glass enclosures, doors, lighting, Climate Control systems, hardware, delivery, and installation.

- Prepare and present project budgets, estimates, proposals, and design recommendations.
- Clearly communicate the value and rationale behind design decisions and project costs.
- Manage client feedback and design revisions through approval and contract.
- Identify value-engineering opportunities when required without compromising the overall design intent.
- Assist clients with material, finish, hardware, and specialty selections during the design phase.
- Maintain clear records of client correspondence, selections, design decisions, and relevant information throughout the pre-contract process.
- Communicate with architects, interior designers, builders, consultants, and other professionals as necessary to establish project requirements during design development.
- Conduct or participate in site visits during the consultation and design process when required.
- Guide qualified opportunities from initial inquiry through design approval, proposal, signed contract, and deposit.
- Provide an exceptionally polished, responsive, and professional client experience throughout the sales and design process.

Who We're Looking For You are a strong designer who is also an exceptional communicator.

You understand that luxury design is not simply about creating something beautiful—it is about listening carefully, solving complex problems, anticipating details, communicating confidently, and making the experience feel effortless for the client.

You are comfortable taking ownership of the design and client relationship and do not require constant direction. You know when to make a recommendation, when to ask a question, and when to draw on the expertise of the broader Genuwine team.

You are meticulous without losing sight of the bigger picture.

Most importantly, you genuinely enjoy working with people and can build trust quickly with sophisticated clients and industry professionals.

Qualifications

Required or strongly preferred:

- Degree or diploma in Interior Design, Environmental Design, Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a related discipline.
- Approximately 5+ years of relevant professional experience in luxury residential design, architecture, custom millwork, high-end interiors, or a comparable field.
- Strong understanding of architectural drawings, dimensions, materials, finishes, and construction detailing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional organization and ability to manage multiple active design opportunities simultaneously.
- Strong design judgment and refined aesthetic sensibility.
- Confidence presenting concepts, recommendations, and significant project budgets directly to clients.
- Ability to communicate effectively with homeowners as well as architects, designers, builders, consultants, and trades.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, accountability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to independently prioritize opportunities and move clients effectively through the design and proposal process.
- Comfortable working on projects with significant budgets and high client expectations.

- Valid passport and ability to travel internationally as required.
- Ability to work full time from our Winnipeg office.

An asset:

- Experience with custom millwork, cabinetry, luxury residential interiors, hospitality design, or architectural detailing.
- Experience working with high-net-worth clientele.
- Knowledge of wine cellar design, Climate Control, glazing, lighting, or specialty architectural systems.
- Experience developing project estimates or working within project budgets.
- Experience in a client-facing design, sales, or design-sales role.

Wine expertise is not required. We can teach the technical aspects of wine storage and cellar design. We are primarily looking for someone with exceptional design instincts, communication skills, professionalism, commercial awareness, and the ability to learn. What Success Looks Like The right person will become someone our clients trust completely.

You will be able to take an initial inquiry from:

“We would like to build a wine cellar.”

to a clearly defined vision, thoughtful design, coordinated proposed scope, realistic budget, and ultimately a signed contract.

Your responsibility is to create the vision, develop the opportunity, earn the client's confidence, and bring the project successfully through the design and sales process. From there, Genuwine's production and project-delivery teams take over the execution of the contracted project.

You will balance creativity, technical understanding, exceptional client service, and commercial awareness while maintaining the level of quality associated with the Genuwine name.

Why Genuwine

This is an opportunity to work on truly unique projects rather than repeating the same design solution.

Our work ranges from intimate residential wine displays to substantial architectural wine environments and large-scale private cellars. Projects regularly incorporate custom millwork, specialty metals, architectural glass, integrated lighting, Climate Control, stone, leather, and other bespoke materials.

You will collaborate with talented professionals and work with clients and design teams across North America and internationally.

For the right designer, this role offers significant creative influence, exposure to extraordinary projects, and the opportunity to develop expertise within a highly specialized luxury industry.
