Senior Geologist

Location: Calgary, AB

Introduction:

Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Geologist to join its Calgary-based team. Reporting to the VP, Operations, the successful candidate will play a key role in the evaluation, exploration, development, and optimization of the company's conventional and unconventional resource portfolio.

This position offers the opportunity to work across a diverse range of domestic and international assets, contributing technical expertise to strategic decision-making, resource development planning, reserves evaluations, acquisitions, and exploration initiatives. The role requires occasional travel within Canada and internationally, including Brazil, to support asset evaluations, operational activities, and business development initiatives.

Responsibilities:

- Lead geological evaluations of exploration, appraisal, and development opportunities across the company's asset portfolio.
- Interpret and integrate geological, geophysical, petrophysical, production, and engineering data to support asset development strategies.
- Build and maintain regional and asset-scale geological frameworks, maps, correlations, cross-sections, and subsurface models.
- Identify, evaluate, and mature drilling prospects and development opportunities.
- Conduct reservoir characterization and resource assessments for conventional and unconventional resource plays.
- Support reserves evaluations, resource reporting, and annual budgeting processes.
- Provide geological input into well planning, drilling operations, completions, and field development programs.
- Participate in acquisition, divestiture, farm-in/farm-out, and business development evaluations, including technical due diligence activities.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including geoscience, reservoir engineering,



land, regulatory, and operations personnel.
- Monitor industry activity, emerging technologies, and regional geological trends to identify new exploration and development opportunities.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for executive leadership, partners, and stakeholders.
- Support evaluations of international opportunities, including projects in Brazil and other jurisdictions as required.
- Contribute to strategic planning by identifying opportunities to enhance resource value and portfolio growth.
- Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices related to health, safety, environment, and governance .

Qualifications

Required

- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geoscience, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
- 15-20 years of progressive oil and gas industry experience.
- Strong expertise in subsurface evaluation, reservoir characterization, prospect generation, and resource assessment.
- Demonstrated experience working with unconventional resource plays, including shale, tight oil, and low permeability reservoirs.
- Proven ability to integrate geological, geophysical, petrophysical, and production datasets into actionable recommendations.
- Experience supporting drilling, completion, and development programs.
- Solid understanding of exploration and development workflows across oil and gas assets.




- Proficiency with industry-standard geological interpretation, mapping, and modeling software.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a cooperative, multidisciplinary environment.
- Eligibility for registration as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with APEGA or another recognized professional association.

Preferred

- Experience evaluating international oil and gas opportunities.
- Exposure to reserves assessments, acquisitions, divestitures, and technical due diligence projects.
- Strong knowledge of the Western Canadian and Eastern Canadian sedimentary basins, including Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada.
- Experience with unconventional resource development, including shale gas, shale oil, and tight oil plays.
- Familiarity with public company reporting, reserves disclosure, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience supporting business development, asset valuation, and strategic growth initiatives.
