Build Your Career and Help Grow Qualitree For more than 30 years, Qualitree has partnered with growers, retailers and garden centres across North America. We have built our reputation through trusted relationships, quality products and exceptional service.
As our Service and Maintenance Manager, you will lead the team responsible for keeping our facilities, vehicles and production equipment secure, reliable and ready to perform. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will set priorities, develop technicians and step into complex troubleshooting, repair and fabrication work when the operation needs you.
You will work closely with the Director of Operations and teams across the business. The role suits a practical, calm and organized leader who can balance preventive maintenance, urgent repairs, people development and sound cost control in a seasonal environment. The position includes a rotating on-call schedule, and seasonal demands may require longer hours at certain times of the year.
What You’ll Do
Lead the Maintenance Team
- Run daily maintenance huddles, meet weekly with direct reports and maintain clear communication with the Director of Operations.
- Prioritize and assign repair requests, follow up on completion and keep the rotating on-call schedule covered.
- Set clear expectations, coach and mentor technicians, and arrange approved training and certification.
- Make sure the team has the PPE, equipment and training needed to work safely.
Keep Equipment and Facilities Running
- Oversee daily water-room and boiler-room inspections, including fog, ECA, chlorine-pump, boiler and filter checks.
- Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance across all sites, including annual boiler and generator service and outside vendor support.
- Maintain company vehicles and equipment, including tractors, forklifts, golf carts, passenger vehicles and greenhouse production systems.
- Keep digital maintenance and service histories current and maintain an appropriate inventory of critical components.
Bring Strong Hands-On Capability
- Diagnose irregularities and malfunctions, adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts.
- Install, align, dismantle and move industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Read blueprints, diagrams and schematics; assemble equipment using hand tools, power tools and welding equipment.
- Design, build and fabricate practical machinery, tools and equipment that improve production productivity.
- Review vendor invoices and obtain approval for expenses above $2,500.
What We’re Looking For
- A proactive, solution-oriented leader who stays calm under pressure and follows work through to completion.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to set expectations and work effectively across teams.
- Completion of secondary education and a valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Strong computer literacy; Google Workspace and Microsoft Office experience are assets.
- Journeyman certification in a relevant trade, or progress toward certification, is an asset.
- Welding, greenhouse or horticulture experience, and network or security-system knowledge are assets.
- A commitment to safe work, high-quality workmanship, continuous development and Qualitree’s company values.
