About The Role

As a Staff Software Engineer at Capital One Canada, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining complex software systems that support our innovative banking solutions. This position requires a highly skilled technical leader with extensive hands-on development experience, a deep understanding of application architecture, and the ability to guide cross-functional teams through the entire Software Development Life Cycle. You will act as a technical owner, responsible for establishing best practices, defining standards, and ensuring the delivery of fault-tolerant, scalable, and secure applications.

Your expertise will influence the technical direction of projects, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with product and business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of cloud-based technology, microservices architecture, and open-source tools,



contributing to products that enhance the financial well-being of millions of Canadians.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 6 years of hands-on software development experience, preferably utilizing languages such as Java, Python, or Go, along with a strong background in application and data architecture.

Experience working with cloud platforms like AWS is highly preferred, although expertise in Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud is also valuable. Candidates should demonstrate prior experience in providing mentorship to junior and intermediate team members, guiding technical decisions, and fostering best practices in software engineering. A bachelor’s, master’s, or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is required.

Additionally, candidates should have a solid understanding of agile methodologies and be comfortable working in dynamic, collaborative environments.

Responsibilities

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the entire Software Development Life Cycle to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Take ownership as a technical lead, designing and developing multi-platform, fault-tolerant applications that meet business needs.
- Continuously enhance the developer experience by identifying gaps in existing frameworks and tools, and contributing to their improvement.
- Establish and promote engineering best practices, including code review standards, documentation, and testing protocols.




- Apply deep technical expertise to define standards, troubleshoot complex issues, and provide technical support to ensure consistent adherence to best practices.
- Lead architecture discussions, applying a high-level design methodology, and contribute to architecture ownership and evolution.
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
