Ranfar Steel Ltd. is a custom metal fabrication shop located in Courtice, Ontario.

We are looking for a Structural Steel Detailer / CAD Technologist to join our team and turn engineering and architectural drawings into accurate, practical, production-ready shop drawings and 3D CAD models.

This position is ideally suited to someone with experience in structural steel detailing, fabrication, and 3D CAD who is interested in developing specialized skills in multi-axis tube laser programming.

This is a full-time, on-site position, Monday to Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Role

You will work closely with our project management and fabrication teams to take projects from supplied drawings through to production.

Your primary responsibility will be detailing and 3D modelling structural and custom-fabricated steel components. You will also develop the skills necessary to prepare files and programs for our multi-axis tube laser.

This is a CAD-to-production position. We need someone who can take the supplied engineering design and accurately translate it into something our shop can manufacture.

Responsibilities

- Interpret structural, architectural, and engineering drawings.
- Create detailed shop and fabrication drawings.
- Develop accurate 3D CAD models of structural steel members and custom-fabricated components.
- Prepare models and files for our multi-axis tube laser.
- Work with the fabrication team to ensure designs are practical to cut, fit, weld, and assemble.
- Identify discrepancies, missing information, or potential fabrication problems before they reach production.
- Communicate with project management and shop personnel to resolve detailing issues.
- Maintain accurate job files, revisions, and drawing records.
- Assist with material optimization and nesting where applicable.
- Develop familiarity with our tube laser's CAD/CAM software and eventually take responsibility for tube laser programming.

What We're Looking For

- Experience as a structural steel detailer, steel detailer,



CAD technologist, mechanical drafter, or similar role.
- Strong 2D and 3D CAD skills.
- Ability to read and understand structural and fabrication drawings.
- Good understanding of how structural steel is cut, fitted, welded, and assembled.
- Strong spatial visualization and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work directly with both office and shop personnel.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize work, and meet project deadlines.

Experience With Any of the Following Is an Asset

- AutoCAD
- SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar 3D CAD software
- CNC programming
- Tube laser programming

Previous tube laser programming experience is not required. We are particularly interested in someone with strong structural steel detailing and 3D CAD skills who is interested in learning and growing into the tube laser programming side of the operation. The Right Person The ideal candidate is someone who understands that a good shop drawing has to work in the real world.

You should be able to look at a structural drawing and visualize how the steel will be cut, fitted, welded, and assembled. You should enjoy solving practical problems and working with the people on the shop floor to find the best way to manufacture a component.

We're looking for a detailer first and a programmer in training — someone who can become a key link between our customers' designs and our fabrication equipment.
