Structural Welding Inspector / NDE Technician
CIC Inspection & Consulting Ltd. is seeking an experienced Welding Inspector to join our team in a full-time, permanent position.
CIC provides third-party inspection, quality assurance, and non-destructive testing services on structural steel projects throughout Alberta and Western Canada. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced inspector looking for primarily local work with the prospect to be home at the end of most workdays, while still having the opportunity to work on a variety of projects.
Position Details
Position: Structural Welding Inspector / NDE Technician
Employment: Full-time, permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Overtime: Occasional overtime as required
Location: Edmonton and surrounding area, with out-of-town travel as required
Wage: $29.00 – $40.00 per hour, based on experience and certifications
Responsibilities The successful candidate will perform welding inspection and non-destructive testing on structural steel and other components in fabrication shops, construction sites, remanufacturing facilities and other project environments.
Responsibilities will include
- Performing visual welding inspections in accordance with applicable codes, standards, drawings, and project specifications.
- Performing Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and other NDE methods within the inspector's qualifications.
- Inspecting structural steel fabrication and installation/erection activities for buildings and bridges.
- Reading and interpreting structural and fabrication drawings.
- Reviewing project specifications and identifying applicable inspection requirements.
- Identifying and documenting deficiencies and non-conformances.
- Preparing clear, accurate, and timely inspection and NDE reports.
- Communicating inspection findings professionally with clients, fabricators, contractors, and project personnel.
- Maintaining inspection equipment and ensuring testing is performed using appropriate procedures and calibrated equipment.
- Travelling to out-of-town projects when required.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- CSA W178.2 Level 1 or Level 2 certification with CSA W47.1/W59 endorsement.
- CGSB Level 2 Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) certification.
- Proven experience with structural steel fabrication inspection inside the fabrication shop.
- Proven experience with structural steel installation inspection on construction sites.
- Experience working in the buildings and bridges category.
- Strong ability to read and interpret structural and fabrication drawings.
- Good working knowledge of project specifications and applicable structural steel codes and standards.
- Experience preparing professional inspection reports.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as general computer applications.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with clients and project teams.
- Ability and willingness to travel for out-of-town work when required.
- Ability to pass required drug testing and security/background checks.
- Ability to provide a clean 5 year drivers abstract
Additional Qualifications The ideal candidate will be dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in both shop and field environments. A willingness to continue developing technical skills and obtain additional inspection and NDE certifications is important. Additional NDE certifications, structural inspection qualifications, or experience with other inspection methods will be considered an asset.
Working Conditions
Work will be performed in a variety of environments, including structural steel fabrication shops, active construction sites, other industrial settings. The position requires the ability to work safely around active fabrication and construction operations and comply with applicable site safety requirements.
The majority of work is local to the Edmonton area, although availability for out-of-town projects is an essential part of the position. Occasional overtime may be required to meet project schedules.
