Brief Description
Reporting to the Corporate Communication and Promotions Officer, the Communications Coordinator will work collaboratively within the Strategy and Engagement Department for the administration of information on the Town's digital communication channels (corporate website, intranet, and social media channels), and assist with the creation of multimedia content.
The Communications
Coordinator will assist the team as directed to provide quality communications through superior writing and editing skills to achieve the organization's corporate Strategic Plan goals.
Requirements
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively within the department under the supervision of the Corporate Communication and Promotions Officer to research, develop, write, take photos, and design a variety of communication materials, including multimedia content, graphic design and videography, etc., to reach all audiences within established deadlines.
- Develop a digital content calendar and content campaigns for the Town's corporate website, intranet, and social media channels as directed.
- Assist in administration of the Town's social media accounts ensuring a professional and coherent look across all platforms following branding standards.
- Monitor the Town's social media channels and profile assisting the department to identify concerns and respond effectively and timely to online comments and questions as directed.
- Provide functional advice and support to all departments related to external website content in collaboration with the Corporate Communication and Promotions Officer.
- Assist in the coordination of sharing of information on the Town's intranet site.
- Attend events and special activities providing support by taking photos and videos and posting on the Town's social media pages as approved.
- Assist the department with crisis communication during emergency situations.
- Consult with Corporate Communication and Promotions Officer to analyze and interpret data and identify best practices in communications.
- Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with department and corporate goals.
Qualifications
- Three (3) year college diploma or equivalent post-secondary education in Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related discipline
- One (1) to three (3) years of previous relevant work experience
- Strong knowledge of and experience with social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). Proven ability to use social media in a skilled setting, including content development, performance monitoring, and analysis of digital engagement metrics
- Knowledge of graphic design, photography, and video editing tools and software
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet applications
- Must have superior written, oral, and visual communication skills, including experience in creating and editing documents
- Demonstrated time management and project management skills
- Ability to balance a number of projects simultaneously to meet deadlines
- Hold and maintain a valid Class "G" driver's license
Qualifications Considered Assets
- Familiarity with public administration/municipal government communications and knowledge of the LaSalle community
- Experience with customer service
- Expertise in the most current Adobe design and web software
- Experience using a social media scheduling tool (e.g., Hootsuite)
- Ability to work with a team and independently
Working Conditions
- Duties shall primarily be performed indoors, with some outdoor duties required in all weather conditions
- Safety equipment as required (i.e., safety shoes, glasses/goggles, hearing protection, etc.)
- Manual dexterity to use desktop computer and peripherals
- Operation of a motor vehicle
Hours of Work
- Primary hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours per week), day shift with overtime as required. Will be scheduled afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts as needed
Physical Requirements
- Physical work environment requiring extended periods of walking, standing, sitting, and driving
