Job Summary

Join the Village of Greenwood Public Works team as a Temporary/Seasonal Public Works worker for the upcoming winter season! This reliable and hands-on position will support winter maintenance operations while also assisting with a variety of general Public Works duties throughout the season. The position is scheduled for 20 hours per week, with availability for up to an additional 20 hours per week as required due to weather and winter maintenance needs.

This role is ideal for a dependable, mechanically inclined individual who is comfortable working independently and as part of a team in physically demanding outdoor conditions.

Duties

- Operate trucks equipped with plows and tractors equipped with snow blowers for winter maintenance operations
- Clear and maintain sidewalks, civic parking lots, and other municipal areas during winter weather events
- Assist with snow and ice control activities to help maintain secure and accessible public spaces
- Perform routine equipment checks and report mechanical or operational concerns as required
- Assist with a variety of general Public Works duties as assigned
- Support municipal maintenance, cleanup, landscaping, and other seasonal projects as required
- Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of municipal properties, facilities, sidewalks, parking areas, and other community infrastructure
- Operate equipment and tools safely and efficiently in accordance with established procedures
- Perform manual labour and physically demanding tasks as required
- Conduct routine inspections of work areas and equipment and report any safety or maintenance concerns
- Work flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as required for weather-related events and winter maintenance needs




- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding work assignments, equipment, and maintenance requirements
- Work independently while also contributing effectively as part of the Public Works team
- Follow all applicable workplace safety procedures and operational guidelines

Qualifications
- Previous experience operating a truck with a plow and a tractor with a snow blower
- Mechanically inclined with an ability to recognize and address basic equipment concerns
- Previous Public Works or municipal winter maintenance experience is considered an asset
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to perform a variety of general Public Works and manual labour duties
- Availability for flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as required
- Valid driver's licence
- Satisfactory driver's abstract
- Ability to successfully obtain a criminal record check
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills
- Reliable, dependable, and willing to take initiative
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and proper equipment operation

This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the safe, accessible, and well-maintained community of Greenwood while gaining valuable experience in winter maintenance and a variety of Public Works activities. Although permanent employment is not guaranteed, the successful candidate may be considered for future permanent opportunities with the Village should a suitable position become available.

Pay: $24.77-$29.27 per hour
